YouTuber Buys Cheapest Cammed C5 Corvette Z06 in the USA

Corvette appears to have been properly repaired, but it still needs some work and it cost around $10k.

The video above comes to us from the Garage Topics YouTube channel and it features what new owner Michael Seymour believes to be the cheapest cammed C5 Corvette Z06 in the U.S.A. He got the price that he did because the car had been badly crashed and repaired, so it has a rebuilt title, but the car looks pretty good and it drives straight. More importantly, this Z06 sounds wicked at idle thanks to the aftermarket camshaft, headers and exhaust, but with a price “around $10,000”, did Seymour get a good deal?

The Introduction

The video begins with a quick clip of the C5 Z06 is idle, followed by a short segment where Seymour explains why he bought this particular car. He had been considering an LS-swap project, possibly an E36 BMW M3, but he found this Corvette online. It had a rebuilt title because it had been badly wrecked, but a previous owner bought the car back from the insurance company and performed the repairs.

We find out later on that a previous owner installed the Vengeance Racing camshaft, a set of Texas Speed longtube headers and other performance upgrades with roughly 129,000 miles on the odometer, but he sold it shortly after. Unfortunately, the buyer wrecked it right away, at which point the initial owner bought the car, replacing the body panels and some rear suspension bits.

Also, after buying it, he drove it for about 90 minutes to get it home and it drove well, but it has some issues that he doesn’t disclose in this video. He does say that he paid around $10,000, but he also includes the extensive modification list, so he bought a modified C5 Z06 with a rebuilt title and the need for more work for around $10,000.

The “Issues”

Seymour mentions several times that the Corvette has issues that he will address in a later video, but he does point out a few of the things that he aims to repair. The paint could use some love in a few places including the passenger’s side front fender and around the rear window, but the ugliest aesthetic issues are under the hood.

The previous owner painted half the stock coil packs red and it looks kind of tacky, but the previous owner also painted the air intake tube red, then black, and the black paint is chipping off.

However, with the hood closed, the new owner states that Z06 has a five-foot paint job, provided that you are looking at the driver’s side. The inside looks pretty good with the C6 seats and shifter, but it needs a shift boot.

Seymour closes by urging critics of the Corvette to go out and drive one, as he “bashed on the cars for years”, but once he drove one, he was amazed at how well they drive. He was amazed enough to buy one.
