British singer Sir Cliff Richard has been a mainstay on the pop charts in the U.K. for decades. he also scored a hit Stateside in 1981, collaborating with Olivia Newton-John on “Suddenly,” the love theme from Xanadu, which reached number No. 20 on the U.S. charts and No. 15 in the U.K. During his decades in music, Richard made loads of chart-busting hits, as well as stacks on stacks of money. The car enthusiast developed a taste for sweet rides, including this Corvette Stingray that Richard bought new in 1963. Silverstone Auctions will be offering up the stunning ‘Vette in its upcoming sale at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Car Show on November 9-10.
One an appearance on Top Gear in 2010, Richard talked about his preference for driving American cars. And judging by this classic Stingray, he has great taste.
He sold the car in 1965, and in 2012 the current seller purchased it from Corvette specialists, Claremont Corvette. The sale includes all the documentation detailing the work including a full respray and leather seating upgrades to the interior. Log books from the sale show Richard’s real name, Harry Rodger Webb, and his signature. Additionally they are including some photographs of Sir Richard in the car.
Further images of Richard in the Corvette are available and were taken by David Steen, a noted photographer of film and pop stars who recalls Sir Cliff Richard driving this car from gig to gig.
There are 69,000 miles on the ticker, and the Corvette Stingray does have the original Delco radio. It is an incredible ‘Vette, and the V8 power is still as solid as ever.
If this Corvette Stingray could talk, we could listen all day; the stories it could tell, the history it holds, the sixties legends that rode in the car.
A perfect second-generation C2 Stingray, it is expected to fetch $60,000 to $75,000.
