Vengeance Racing helps Corvette customer run their first ever eight second pass down the 1/4-mile.

The C6 Corvette Z06 is one of the great modern Vettes, possibly featuring the last of the big displacement V8 engines. It’s powered by a naturally-aspirated LS7 measuring 427.8 cubic inches, which delivers a combination of 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. With the help of the standard 6-speed manual transmission, the LS7 made the C6 Z06 a solid 11-second car in the quarter mile, but there is a lot more power to be made through the tuning process.

The Corvette shown here is an example of the benefits of a big twin turbo build on an LS7-powered Z06. This car is owned and driven by Drue Macready of Speed Addicts and in the video above from the Vengeance Racing YouTube channel, we get to watch and ride along as his murdered-out Chevy supercar lays down a series of back-to-back eight second quarter mile runs.

The Build

This C6 Corvette Z06 is powered by a Vengeance Racing-built, 427-cubic inch LSX fitted with Mast Motorsports LS7 cylinder heads. More importantly, this Vette features a custom Vengeance Racing twin turbo setup that introduces a pair of Precision 68/70 Gen II billet wheel turbochargers to the system. Tuned to run on VP Q16 race fuel at roughly 32 pounds of boost, this car makes the power needed to run well into the 8-second range.

That power is sent to the rear wheels by means of a TH400 automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear differential. Additionally, based on how smoothly this Corvette launches, we figure that there has to be some suspension work done as well.

In any case, this Z06 is crazy quick.

Hitting the Track

In the video above, we get to watch as this wicked Corvette makes a handful of runs down the track. We see a couple solid burnouts and we watch the racing action from a handful of different points around the track, including riding along with a view from the top of the windshield.

In each run, take note of how smooth and flat this Corvette rips away from the starting line, getting down into the 1.32X 60-foot range on what looks like nice, controlled launches. His best run of the video is an 8.410 at 167 miles per hour, but over the course of several runs, this Corvette’s worst time was an 8.628.
