Advanced Modern Performance has the world’s quickest Corvette ZR1, setting the bar very high with a trap speed of 160 MPH.

Since the tuning access of the new LT5 V8 was unlocked earlier this year, Advanced Modern Performance (AMP) has been a front-runner in the field of modifying the C7 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Along with building some big-power machines, AMP ZR1s have been putting up big track numbers, but their shop car recently set the quarter mile record for the new LT5-powered supercar, covering the quarter mile in just 8.57 seconds at 160.25 miles per hour.

Corvette ZR5 Package Details

The Corvette ZR1 in the video above from the shop’s YouTube channel is fitted with the AMP ZR5 package, which adds a long list of high performance upgrades, but there are some key components that are still stock on this car. The short block is stock, so the engine block, crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons are all factory-issued parts. The same is true of the automatic transmission, the torque convertor, the rear differential and the axles.

Upgrades include ported-and-built LT5 cylinder heads, Kooks headers, a custom camshaft, an Innovators West 9 percent lower pulley, a Griptec 2.7-inch upper pulley, a ported LT5 supercharger, ID1050X fuel injectors, a methanol injection system, an E85 engine tune and all of the odds and ends needed to complete the engine build. The key points here are that the drive line rear of the engine is stock, the short block is stock and this Corvette is running boost-only, so no nitrous oxide was used on this mid-8-second run. The only modified not included in the package is the huge drag radials out back, but that is a common modification for anyone who is serious about running in the 8s.

Setting the Record

In the video above, the AMP C7 Corvette ZR1 shop car is making a few passes down the quarter mile drag strip at the Texas Motorplex.

On the first run, the LT5-powered beast lays down an 8.72 at 160.1 miles per hour with a short time of 1.341-seconds. Those are all solid numbers, but on the second run, the ZR1 gets out quite a bit harder, getting to the 60-foot mark in just 1.267 seconds and stopping the timer on the top end with an 8.572 at 160.62 miles per hour.

That 8.572 at 160.62 sets the world record for the quickest and fastest C7 Corvette ZR1 in the quarter mile, but the team backed it up on the final pass of the video, running an 8.577 at 160.25 miles per hour.

In addition to laying down incredible, record-setting quarter mile times, the AMP ZR5-equipped C7 offers an exhaust note to match the performance, so crank up your speakers and enjoy!
