Uncovered, original video shows how Chevrolet pitched the brand new Corvette to prospective buyers back in 1953.

Automotive advertising certainly has come a long way. Now, most every sports car is shown thrashing around a race track, drifting, or being pushed the ragged edge. Even SUV commercials show these modern, three ton behemoths swiftly navigating a mountain road.

Back in 1953, however, the tone was rather different, as this video from Hi-Tech Software shows. Back in 1953, the Corvette was a brand new thing, that consumers had never seen before. While the Blue Flame straight-six wasn’t much of a barnstormer, it did offer smooth, relaxed cruising. And, indeed, back in 1953, most consumers buying a luxury grand tourer weren’t interested in motorsport, or canyon carving, but, instead, having a respectable boulevardier that could be proudly on the driveway in front of their suburban homes.

So, sit back, and enjoy this brief clip from back then, because it sure is a pretty drastic difference from any other ad you’re going to watch today.
