Great price, great color, great gearbox: what’s not to love with this C4?
We’ve long been fans of the C4 Corvette here on Corvette Forum. In the world of enthusiast cars, it probably presents the best value out there right now, offering more performance per dollar than anything else.
The fact that clean examples often exchange hands for less than ten grand will likely bring a whole new generation of first-time Corvette owners into the fold. We say, the more the merrier. Welcome home.
This compelling Corvette was posted to Craigslist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It’s a teal 1986 targa, one of our favorite retro-flavored C4 colors, and while it shows some minor sun fading and interior wear, it looks pretty good for 186,000 miles.
We frequently find C4 Corvettes like this under five grand, so what makes this one so special that it’s worth nearly six? The $5,800 price is, in our opinion, justified, and it’s not just because of the cool color.
Instead of the four-speed automatic or wacky Doug Nash 4+3 manual, this Corvette’s next owner will get to shift gears through the superior ZF 6-speed manual. That alone makes it worth the asking price to us, but there’s more to the story.
Unlike most Corvettes in this price range, this one was clearly owned by an enthusiast who stayed on top of maintenance. In fact, it’s spent almost two decades with its current owner, who recently fitted a set of new tires and carried out a sizable list of other maintenance that the next owner won’t have to worry about.
In our opinion, this specific car might be the best value in C4 Corvettes available right now. If you’re in the market, this one’s definitely worth a look. Let us know if you end up picking this one up; we’ll be positively teal with envy.
