Should You LT4 Swap Your C7 Corvette, or Just Supercharge It?
Late Model Racecraft offers complete LT4 conversions for the C7 Corvette, but the internet commentariat isn’t convinced.
Here at Corvette Forum, we know that you know all about the C7 Corvette, and it’s many excellent variants. There is the standard Sting Ray model, with an available Z51 performance pack, which is a great entry-level model for the brand, with it’s 460 horsepower LT1 V8 engine. Then there is the Grand Sport, which cribs the widened body panels and race-ready suspension from the Z06 to bestows those goodies onto the basic car. Following that, obviously, is the Z06, which, like the Grand Sport, has the track-ready bodywork and suspension tech, but also gains a 650 horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine. Last, but certainly not least is the top dog ZR1, which, with 755 horsepower, and even crazier body work, and chassis design, is the wildest Corvette ever.
However, when it comes to those looking for more speed, there is always room to improve, in any Corvette model. That is exactly what Late Model Racecraft has done to this C7 Sting Ray by swapping in the LT4 engine from the Z06.

Going from 460 horsepower to 650 is, obviously a big jump, but it also comes with a big price tag. LT4 crate engines aren’t cheap, neither is the labor to swap it into your ride and get it running just like a Z06 would. Regardless, LMR offers this service, but online horsepower experts aren’t convinced it’s worth the effort. After all, how much less power is a supercharged LT1 really going to make, versus a stock LT4?
Of course, there’s more to it than that, but at face value, it’s a tough sell for many folks. Still, it’s bad ass seeing this swap done as a plug-and-play offering. It also helps that this particular Sting Ray turned Z06-lite sounds great. Would you consider the swap?
