With C8 delays on the horizon, this eBay listing could be your ticket to the promised land, but is it worth it? (No.)
How badly do you want to be one of the first people with a new C8 Corvette? If you’re both impatient and flush with cash, there’s an opportunity waiting for you. One Corvette fan is selling their build slot on eBay for an eye-watering $110,000. But there’s a catch. A $40,000 catch. While it’s possible to spec a new Corvette out to near that price, Motor 1 points out that C8 is just a base 1LT car with a few options.
According to the eBay ad, the seller has a simple reason for selling his Corvette. “I don’t have to sell it, nor do I need to [sic] for any other reason other than making a profit.”
So what does $110,000 get you? The Z51 performance package, competition sport bucket seats, Carbon Flash side mirrors, and a storage bag for the removable roof. Those are decent options, but they represent only a $7,000 premium over the 1LT base price.
If you were paying MSRP for this car, you’d be looking at roughly $68,000. Even the paint color, Arctic White, is a no-cost option. It’s one of the few colors that doesn’t cost extra.
We actually like this build. If you’ve ordered your new C8 Corvette just like this, we don’t want you to think that we’re making fun of you. Our point is that for an inflated price of $110,000, we’d certainly expect more — a lot more.
Despite the fact that Motor 1 wrote about this last week, the auction is still active on eBay. We’re surprised — we figured that eBay would have pulled the auction by now, due either to a “terms of service” violation or pressure from GM.
Still, we wonder if there might be more to the story. Last week, news broke about C8 manufacturing delays, which might push a few folks into taking the deal. Perhaps this guy will land someone who doesn’t have the patience to way. Still, paying over MSRP for any car, even a Corvette, is a losing proposition. That’s especially true when the asking price is over one and a half times the list price!
