Corvette Forum headed to one of our favorite Cars & Coffee events in Wadsworth, Ohio, last weekend, and once again we were awed by the awesome collection of cars on display. And–spoiler alert–it was a little red Corvette that stole the spotlight.
After all, it seems like some of these laid-back weekend Cars & Coffee get-togethers are populated by young guys in souped-up imports and rich guys in their supercars. So, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that while there were plenty of fast turbo four-cylinder cars and flashy supercars in attendance, it was this beautiful 1979 Corvette that was getting most of the attention from those in attendance.
Even though the 1979 Corvette was the best-selling year of the C3 generation, we doubt anyone would call this car common. Its beautiful red-on-red color scheme is eye-catching and timeless, and inside, you’ll find nicely bolstered, leather-trimmed bucket seats originally found on the 1978 Pace Car. They became standard in 1979.
What’s more, this car has a four-speed manual transmission, which makes the car more rare, and more fun. While an incredible 53,807 Corvettes were built in 1979, 41,454 of them were built with automatics.
Of particular note is the subtle pinstriping on the hood. It’s clear from the style and colors that this was likely added sometime within the decade or so after the car was originally delivered. This style of pinstriping fell out of style sometime in the early 1990s and hasn’t been seen much since. We’re glad that this pinstriping, like the rest of the car, has remained in pristine condition over the years, thanks to the car’s careful and proud owner.
If you haven’t attended a Cars & Coffee event in a while, you should give it a try. It’s more laid back and generally has more variety than your average corporate car show, and many folks think they’re more fun, too.
