Chevrolet dealerships across the country are holding on to a ‘232-day’ surplus of brand new Corvettes, claims Corvette Blogger.

As the inevitable mid-engine C8 Corvette approaches, the current C7 is decidedly in a tough spot. We love the way it drives, the way it looks and definitely the way it sounds, however, dealerships are struggling to move brand new examples from their lots, as Corvette Blogger reports.

According to their math, over 9,000 brand new Corvettes are currently sitting on dealer lots unsold. That works out to a 232-day surplus of the all-American sportscar.

The issue is more complex than one would initially assume. Certainly, the impending C8 Corvette, which is poised to change everything we know about life, is part of the equation. However, the other crucial mix is dealer strategy. For better of worse, Bowling Green keeps pumping out new ‘Vettes because dealers keep ordering them. Why? To maintain their status with General Motors as Corvette dealers. If orders slow down, dealers risk losing allocation spots for ordering new Corvettes, especially rare and desirable models, like the ZR1.

So, it’s a tricky position to be in, for everyone but the consumer. One can’t help but think that now is the perfect time to buy a C7. Whether it’s a base, a Grand Sport, Z06 or even the almighty ZR1, simply because dealers are willing to play ball and negotiate to get that sale, even if it means not making a profit.
