Restoring Peter Max’s 36 ‘lost Corvettes’ in just 40 weeks is focus of new History and FYI docuseries.
Barn finds are the holy grail for car collectors. When we happen upon an unmolested vehicle or unfinished project, something rises up in us. A sudden desire, or need rather, awakens. We simply have to act.
Recently, Corvette restorer and collector Chris Mazzilli found pop-artist Peter Max‘s astounding collection of 36 Corvettes rotting in a New York garage. And soon, their fully documented restoration will the subject of a new docuseries, Lost Corvettes, premiering November 9 on History Channel and FYI.
Max, whose collection contained one Corvette for each year from 1953 to 1989, hoarded the ‘Vettes for well over a quarter-century.
He originally intended to use the vehicles as canvases, but never got around to it.

The jury is still out as to whether or not that was a good thing. But Mazzilli and his team at Dream Car Restoration have resolved to restore all 36 Corvettes to peak condition in only 40 weeks. If you’ve ever spent long days and nights reviving a barn find — or even a car that had been sitting a year or two — you know how daunting this task will be. (Which, of course, should make for great TV.)
With filming wrapped, Mazzilli and his crew are now heading to Sin City for the annual SEMA Show. The Lost Corvettes will be on full display for fans of the iconic nameplate and automotive enthusiasts alike to view. “This is considered the greatest barn find of cars in history,” says Melissa Browne Weir, spokesperson for the exhibit.

And the best part? You might be able to own one of these amazing Vettes!
That’s right, Mazilli is raffling off all 36 vehicles with proceeds benefiting military veterans. Contestants can enter at CorvetteHeroesor at SEMA.
Be sure to catch the new docuseries when it airs to learn more about these amazing vehicles or, if you’re in Vegas for SEMA, in person.
