Hennessey-Tuned Corvette ZR1 Sets the Quarter Mile Record

HPE1000 package adds a list of items that lead to over 1,000 horsepower, allowing this Corvette to run a 9.52.

The video above comes to us from the official Hennessey Performance YouTube channel and it features the world’s quickest 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The engine computer software of the new LT5 has just recently been unlocked, allowing for custom tuning of the supercharged V8. That allowed Hennessey to apply their HPE1000 package to this car and with some supporting modifications, that power was used to run a record-setting quarter mile time.

The Machine

The 2019 Corvette ZR1 in the video above features the Hennessey HPE1000 package, which helped this car make 905 horsepower and 844 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. Those numbers were achieved by adding a new camshaft, upgraded valve springs, upgraded valves, upgraded pushrods, ported cylinder heads, a high-flow air induction system, long tube headers, custom midpipes, high flow catalytic convertors, a new lower pulley and a custom engine tune for 93-octane gasoline.

In addition to the engine upgrades, the HPE1000 package includes an “upgraded transmission”, but we don’t know what all has been done to the automatic transmission. Finally, this Corvette has Nitto drag radials out back, allowing for extra grip on the launch while letting the team use all of that supercharged LT5 power.

Record Runs

In the video above, the white Corvette ZR1 makes two passes, beginning with a quick look at a run that results in a time of 9.652 at 144.46 miles per hour. The track announcer at Houston Raceway Park asks John Hennessey if that is a record, to which he replies “for the next 30 minutes”, and he wasn’t kidding.

On the next run, which we can view from a handful of different angles during the course of the whole video, the HPE1000 Corvette ZR1 runs a 9.529 at 144.81 miles per hour. That obviously resets the previous record while setting the bar for the rest of the ZR1 owners adding power to go drag racing. On that second run, the LT5-powered supercar pulls a 1.472 60-foot time and runs the eighth mile in 6.159 seconds at 116.89 miles per hour.

Hennessey claims on their website that the HPE1000 package with drag radials and the upgraded transmission will run a 9.4, so we could see more footage of this Corvette turning quicker times in the near future, but for the time being, this is the quickest C7 ZR1 in the world.
