Lightshow at annual event highlighted increasingly popular trend of installing custom LEDs that showcase different areas of the cars.

Custom LED lights may not be to everyone’s taste, but there is no denying that the practice is becoming more and more popular with auto enthusiasts, with some pretty creative results. Certainly it’s a great way to help a custom car stand out from the crowd, as shown in the YouTube channel of Corvette Blogger.

Mid America Motorworks puts on the annual Corvette Funfest in Effingham, Illinois, and this year’s 26th annual event, held Aug. 19-22, had a special Corvette Funfest Light Show on Aug. 20.

The special night event had awards for three different categories: the “Best Dressed Trunk,” “Best in Light Show” and the “Best Under Hood Art.” There was a wide variety of Corvettes on display that had been carefully modified with a variety of lighting schemes, with everything from engine bays that lit up custom painted artwork on the insides of the engine lids, to side coves that were lit from the inside. There was even a Corvette with wheels that alternated from green to blue to purple and then back to green.

Perhaps one of the coolest cars was actually a vintage Corvette C2 roadster that was modified to look like one of the legendary Gran Sport racers. We can only imagine what this must look like cruising down the street on a Saturday night!

Corvette Funfest was founded in 1994 by Mike Yager of Mid America Motorworks. The event has since evolved into what its organizers call the “Largest Corvette Party in the World,” welcoming enthusiasts from across the country and across the globe. “It has been especially gratifying for us to be able to host Funfest on our campus and be able to meet our customers face-to-face,” says Yager. “Our customers actually named it ‘Funfest’ in many of the cards and letters we received after the first event. …Once you attend Funfest, you usually make a point of attending every year.”
