GM Authority reports that twin-turbocharged power plant unlikely to debut in base model C8 Corvette.

The C8 Corvette news cycle is almost never ending in the days leading up to the official reveal in Orange County, California. We have learned so much about the car, including the interior design, the front end, the rear end, and now, according to GM Authority, the engines.

As per our friends at GM Authority, what we are seeing here is a twin-turbocharged powerplant, dubbed LT7 by General Motors. GM Authority goes on to elaborate that this is the engine we are likely to see upon the initial reveal of the C8 Corvette. Instead, their intel points towards this engine powering a more potent, future model, likely wearing the famous Z06 badge.

Interestingly, despite the LTx nomenclature, this new engine does not appear to the pushrod-style V8. Instead, this engine appears to be a dual overhead cam design. This is corroborated by early intel that the C8 Corvette would eventually feature a DOHC V8, similar to Cadillac’s Blackwing V8. Seeing as Cadillac decided to preemptively cut the cord on its CT6-V super sedan, it makes sense, that instead of throwing away this all new powertrain package, that General Motors would naturally hang on to it for the C8. Considering that, currently, the highest spec Blackwing engine already produces 550 horsepower and a massive 627 lb-ft of torque, it’s a set of upgraded, Corvette-specific turbos away from being a 700 horsepower engine.

Of course, all the leaks in the world aren’t officially official until we get the nod from GM on them. So, as always, stay tuned to Corvette Forum, as we continue to cover everything we find on the C8 Corvette.
