C7 Corvette Z06 Versus Ferrari 458 Italia: Who Would Win in Mexico?

Ferrari 458

Corvette Z06 has 650 horsepower while the Ferrari has 562 horsepower, but weighs less.

Some supercar owners might try to argue that the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a sports car, not a supercar, but at the end of the day, there is no denying that the LT4-powered C7 offers supercar-like performance. In fact, the newest Corvette Z06 can beat many supercars in any performance venue, so whether the race is on a road course or a drag strip, the Chevy has a real chance against many expensive competitors.

It is easy enough to look up quarter mile times or top speeds to compare two performance cars, but those numbers don’t always tell the story in every situation. For example, “Gee Venom” posted to the forum, asking how a C7 Z06 would do in a street race with the 458 Italia and not only did the OP get some good responses; he got a video of the two cars in question doing battle.

When the OP posed his question to the members in the C7 Z06 Discussion section, he got right to the point.

Hi folks…just curious if anyone here raced their stock Z M7 against an Italia in Mexico 🇲🇽?

For those unfamiliar with the reference to Mexico, that is popular slang for a street race, as people believe that saying that the race took place in Mexico will alleviate them from any risk of legal issues in the United States. Saying that you raced someone in Mexico is a subtle way of telling the person or people with whom you are talking that you aren’t going to say where the race actually took place.

The first person to reply was “CarAholic22”.

Guessing 458 would take the launch but after the Z got full traction game over for the Ferrari.

The next was “Pacembellum”, who has beaten a 458 with his Z06.

raced one on an old bumpy air strip…unknown length. I went consistent 149-150mph he went consistent 145-146 he had full exhaust, intake, headers, tune. My c7z was stock on some worn out pilot super sports he had new cup 2’s. There was an f12 Berlinetta going 152mph (it wasn’t a full 1/2 mile)

While “usrodeo4” went into detail as to where the Corvette would shine and where it would struggle.

I would expect the Z to win on a 0-60 and roll race and also probably nip the F car in the 1/4 mile but I believe the 458 is a 200 mph car so we would loose that one.

Footage of a Race

During the discussion, “Mr. Gizmo” shared a video of a roll race between a C7 Corvette Z06 and a Ferrari 458. It seems like this Chevy has the automatic transmission, but it gives us a good idea of how a high speed roll race in Mexico between these two cars might end.

As you can see in the video, the Z06 quickly jumps out to a lead and continues to pull away until the Ferrari driver gives up. Of course, if the Corvette had a manual transmission, the win will depend on the ability to get smoothly through the gears, but with smooth shifts, the Z06 appears to have a clear advantage.
