C7 Corvette Wins Outlaw 10.5 Shakedown at the Summit

Summit Motorsports Park hosted the “Shakedown at the Summit” and while there was plenty of action all weekend, it was the Outlaw class that caught our attention. One particular C7 Corvette showed up as a new build, and proceeded to clean up the class. Built by Ken Quartuccio Jr., this Outlaw 10.5 tire car was the one to beat from the very first pass. Outlaw 10.5 cars are limited on tire size and power adders, and have to have doors, which makes them competitive and very exciting to watch.

Although the track is suitable for 1/4-mile racing, the Outlaw class raced in just half that distance. With only 660 feet to play with, every inch of each pass had to be perfect, and that’s exactly what Quartuccio Jr. did. In fact, his runs were so consistent, it almost looked robotic.

Of the 10 passes made, the fastest and slowest passes were separated by just 0.08 of a second. But for Quartuccio Jr., the competition was just as fast. His closest race came against a GM stablemate. Racing an Outlaw Camaro, Quartuccio Jr. set a time of 3.840 at 201.49 miles per hour, edging out the Camaro by only 0.02 seconds. 3.840 would also end up being this Corvette’s fastest time of the entire event. But that was only during the middle of eliminations, and he’d have to keep up the pace for every round as the race results got closer and closer.

It wasn’t until the very last race when Quartuccio Jr. would win the $10,000 payout, but he managed to pull it off. It was another close race, with the C7 edging out a C6 for the overall win. The race ended with the C7 taking the win at 3.864, and the C6 still solid at 3.954 seconds.
