1964 Corvette

Corvette is the best-represented car at the auction, with models from almost every generation.

If you have been dreaming of buying a past Chevrolet Corvette, an auction like Mecum Kansas City is a great place to find the perfect car. The Kansas City auction takes place on December 5, 6 and 7. Over the course of those three days, more than 50 Corvettes will sold to the highest bidder. That group includes cars from every era shy of the C8, so if you have been saving up to buy a Corvette from the first six generations, there is a good chance that you can find your dream car next month in Kansas City.

We went through the entire roster of vehicles for sale at the Mecum Kansas City auction and found that during the three-day event, there will be 52 Corvettes auctioned off. There are at least a few cars from each of the first seven generations, ranging from flawlessly original to oddly modified. It would be too much to read if we tried to talk about them all, so we selected a handful of the most unique Corvettes that are coming to Mecum Kansas City.

Featured Corvette Models

First up, we have the three Chevrolet Corvette models that Mecum has chosen to feature ahead of the Kansas City auction. All three are C2 models, including a 1967 convertible, a 1964 coupe and a sought-after 1963 split-window coupe. The split-window coupe shown below needs to explanation.

1963 Split Window Coupe

The 1964 coupe is a fully-restored award winner that is bright red inside and out. It has a 327-cubic inch V8, a manual transmission and a long list of titles in the car show world. If you want a bright red C2 coupe, this might be about as nice of a car as you will find.

As for the 1967 Corvette convertible, it is an original L71 car. The 427-cubic inch engine delivers 435 horsepower in this classic Chevy. This car also has the F41 suspension package, a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and restored factory wheels.

Thursday Highlights

On Thursday of the Mecum Kansas City auction, there are eight Corvettes being offered, with the oldest being a 1975 model. If you are looking for a C3, C4 or C5 and you don’t want to spend big money, this is your day. The only “special” Corvette being sold on Thursday is a 1993 40th Anniversary Edition model.

However, if you are interested in a C5 with low miles and a unique look, this 1998 Corvette might suit your needs. It has a custom paint scheme, custom interior, a chromed-out engine bay and a shortlist of simple upgrades. The exterior graphics are a bit of an acquired taste. This might be one of the cars that you can get with a smaller budget.

Friday Highlights

Friday of the Mecum Kansas City auction brings 19 Corvettes to the stage. This includes models from each of the first six generations. This group of Corvettes has a handful of “normal cars” that are likely to be affordable to the average buyer, especially if you are looking for a C3, C4 or C5. There are also a few unique cars in this group that will likely bring bigger money.

The first C1 hits the auction block on Friday and this 1960 model is exactly what we picture when we think of an original Corvette. It has a red exterior, a black interior, a white top and a 283-cubic inch V8.

The Friday proceedings also include another key big block car. This one is a 1971 Corvette with the 454-cubic inch V8 and the 4-speed manual transmission, also painted red with a black interior.

If you are looking for an older ZR1, Friday is your day. A C4 ZR1 will hit the block earlier in the day while a C6 with the supercharged LS9 will be sold later in the day. Both ZR1s are bright red and have low mileage. The newer car has more power, but it will demand a bigger price.

C6 ZR1

Friday also brings about another truly unique Corvette. This 1981 coupe features a custom black paint job with blue flames. This C3 is powered by a nitrous-injected, 383-cubic inch stroker motor. That engine helps this ‘Vette cover the quarter-mile in the 10-second range.

Mecum Kansas City Saturday

Saturday of the Kansas City auction is the biggest day for the Corvette. There are 25 units scheduled to hit the block. This includes all three of the featured cars discussed above. There are cars from each of the first seven generations except for the C4. This group features the most cars from the first two generations. This includes the oldest Corvette at the Kansas City auction, which is this Aztec Copper 1957 model. There are once again some C3, C5 and C6 models that can be purchased on a tight budget. In addition to the featured cars, there are a few others that are likely to bring big money.

1957 Corvette

A pair of C3 convertibles with big-block V8 engines are among the standouts being sold by Mecum on December 7. One has the LS5 454 and an automatic transmission while the other has the 435-horsepower variant of the 427 and the 4-speed. Both are red and both are gorgeous.

1972 Corvette

1967 Convertible

Last, but certainly not least, one of the coolest Corvettes coming to Mecum is this 1963 Corvette split-window coupe. This car features a classic ZL1 427 V8 and an array of modern upgrades. This is the car for the Corvette lover who cares more about performance than all-original parts.
