Barrett-Jackson Corvette SEMA 2018

We’re live at SEMA 2018, where we stumbled across one incredible Corvette display with two C1s and a cutaway 396.

Barrett-Jackson is, as you already know, one of the largest automotive auctions on the planet. So when they had to put together a display worthy of SEMA 2018, the world’s largest spectacle of everything automotive, you knew it was going to be good. But we were quite simply blown away when we stumbled across B-J’s amazing Corvette display, which featured a pair of stellar C1 restomods and an amazing cutaway 396 big block.

The first of an equally stunning duo was this red ’54 Corvette dubbed “Transitions.” Built by Larry Griffey’s Hot Rods & Restorations out of Knoxville, Tennessee, it was designed to pay tribute to one of GM’s “Dream Cars” on display at the 1954 Motorama. But instead of going with a traditional replica, this one’s been reimagined as a modern classic. Thus, it sports a blown LS1 and full tube chassis underneath that smooth fiberglass.

Joining that dream car was another C1, albeit one designed with a much different purpose. This Art Morrison-built ’60 Corvette was nicknamed “3G,” and for good reason. The goal with this car was to build a car that could pull 1g on the skidpad, 1g of acceleration, and 1g of braking force. The triple-threat ‘Vette sits on a full custom chassis with a C5 front suspension and AME 4-link out back. Power comes from an all-aluminum Bill Mitchell 427 small block pumping out 538 hp.

Joining these two killer ‘Vettes on stage was, well, an engine. But this isn’t just any old engine, mind you. It’s the actual cutaway 396/425 1965 Corvette engine that was on display at the New York World’s Fair. This incredible slice of history has been fully restored to its original condition.
