2017 Corvette Z06 Faces Off Against 2017 Camaro ZL1 at the Drag Strip
Drag strip battle showcases modified LT4-powered sportscar against modified LT4-powered muscle car. Place your bets.
What a wonderful time to be alive. For about $61,500, you can go to your local Chevrolet dealership and roll out with a brand new, 650 horsepower Camaro ZL1. Or, if your proclivities are more sports car than muscle car, for about $18,000 more, you can roll out of that same dealership showroom with the even more potent, and track-focused Corvette Z06.
As this drag racing video from YouTube channel CallMeTG6 shows, there are no real losers here. Both are packing LT4 V8 power, both offer excellent manual or automatic transmissions, both come with big, fat sticky tires, and, crucially, both are brutally fast. However, as this video shows, because they are so close, the efficacy and importance of the ‘Driver Mod‘ swells substantially.
After both the Corvette Z06 and Camaro ZL1 do a nice burnout to clean their tires, the tree creep commences. Each super Chevy inching towards the starting line. Don’t stage too deep, boys, your 60′ times are counting on it!
As the lights drop, the Z06 gets the jump on the Camaro. The 0.215 reaction time of the Corvette easily out-doing the lazy 0.637 of the Camaro driver. However, after the Camaro driver wakes up from their nap, all hell breaks loose. Both cars are hooked up and banging through the gears. The ZL1 puts on a strong showing in the back-half, but it’s not enough to make up for the lazy reaction time.
The Z06 runs 11.0@126, ans the ZL1 shows its big boy trap speed, running a 10.90@130 MPH. However, when a tenth is all that seperates the ETs, that near half-second hiccup at the start means the Z06 takes the win. Chin up, Camaro, like we said, there’s no real losers in this drag race.
