New YouTuber brings new 2019 Corvette ZR1 to its first track day, makes us wait to see the big ‘Vette until the end of day.
If there’s any Corvette everyone should keep one eye open for at night, it’s the ZR1. The most recent version from the C7 era delivered a blistering 212 mph to the pavement, all with the 755-horsepower of the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 leading the way. On any given track day, the ZR1 is the one to beat, or to make way.
One such individual who knows what the ZR1 can do is new YouTuber Hisham “Hishy 2 Times” Mansoor. Months ago, he took delivery of a 2019 ZR1. Months later, he would roll out to Grattan Raceway in Belding, Michigan to experience his first track day with the most-powerful production ‘Vette to date.
A First Time For Everything
“I [a] got two and a half hour drive,” said Mansoor. “Last time I did this was in my Camaro […] I love this car. This one’s newer. This one’s nicer. It’s more up-to-date than the C6.”
Once at Grattan, a black C8 with gold aftermarket wheels rolls by Mansoor, a comforting sight to see for anyone considering tracking their own C8 soon. A few Camaros also turned up to bring the heat among the rest of the competition, including some ZL1s. Even a black C7 Z06 was ready to go for a day on the track.
“Super-excited to get on the track,” said Mansoor. “We’re gonna start in [the] intermediate level because I’ve never raced at this track before. [I want to] get used to the track a little bit […] We’re gonna get a feel for it, and maybe move up to a higher class.”
Following the weigh-in — demonstrating the near-perfect front and rear distribution the ZR1 offers — Mansoor goes for a few laps in a friend’s Camaro ZL1, riding shotgun while his friend turns off all the aides to allow his talent to shine. As he says, “You can come to the track with a 700-horsepower car, and a guy with a 140-horsepower Miata or Mini Cooper will beat you. It’s more about skills.”
As far as Mansoor’s skills go, he wields his ZR1 like the broadsword it is. However, he does take one turn a bit too wide, though he recovers quickly enough. Although he made us wait for this glorious moment, the wait was worth it.
