Would Anyone Really Choose a Used Porsche 911 Over a C8 Corvette?

Would Anyone Really Choose a Used Porsche 911 Over a C8 Corvette?
Corvette Forum member considers canceling his C8 order and buying a used 911 instead, but eventually relents.
When the C8 Corvette debuted, it sent shockwaves throughout the automotive world. Mainly because it presented an incredible performance bargain. In the months since, the mid-engine machine has converted at least a few exotic and foreign sports car owners, and who can blame them? Cars like the iconic Porsche 911 may be great and all, but are they really worth the premium over a C8? Regardless, that didn’t stop Corvette Forum member Fritzep from second-guessing his decision to order a new ‘Vette recently in this interesting thread.
“I spoke to my dealer today, and due to the current production situation, they will allow me to cancel my order and refund my deposit. I love the C8, but I have also always wanted a 911. I was thinking somewhere between 2013 and 2019, maybe a low-mileage 911 Carrera S. It will most likely cost me a bit more than the C8, maybe about 10k- to-20k Canadian dollars. I would like some advice – should I wait for the C8 or go for a used 911?”
While we’re a bit biased here and you might expect most to defend the Corvette, many forum members appreciate cars of all makes and models. And that’s clearly evident from the responses, starting with one from Big Dave.
“Depends what you like. Some people wouldn’t be caught dead in a Corvette. And some people wouldn’t be caught dead in a foreign car. Buy what you’re comfortable with.”
Regardless, for folks like rmorin1249, there’s just no comparison, at least financially speaking.
“Have you ever owned a late model 911? Are you aware of the maintenance and repair costs? The 911s are great cars and I would love to own one, but there’s no dealer near me and I’m fearful of the cost of ownership.”
Pinmaniac has actually owned both, so he’s in a position to give some good advice.
“I have owned several 911s, including various 996s, 997s, the 991 base model, and 991 GT3s. I kept my 997 Turbo S Cabriolet, which is a permanent keeper. But the C8 drives better than the 997 and older models and at least as good as the 991 models. I prefer my C8 to the 991 base, S or GT3 for street use. I haven’t taken my C8 to the track yet so I can’t compare there.”
Ultimately, however, the OP seems to have made his choice already.
“Thanks for all of your advice. I Googled and found a few comparisons, and the Corvette does beat or equal the 2020 911 in many areas. It especially wins in value. So I have decided to keep my order in play and patiently wait for production. Thanks!”
