Placed in our classifieds by owner’s son, ’66 Corvette includes a 427 V8 from another ‘Vette, Hurst shifter, and factory side exhaust.

Is your garage looking for a Corvette? It would be the perfect companion for the rest of your fleet, and would also make an excellent machine to take outside for a weekend getaway. No matter what year you seek, a Corvette is a Corvette. Everyone will have their eyes on you wherever you go.

Luckily, our Corvette Forum classified sections include plenty of choices across the eight generations of America’s reigning sports car. We found one example the other day, in the form of a 1966 convertible in Nassau Blue. Here’s the tale of this C2-era ride.

“For sale: 1966 Corvette convertible, originally 425 horsepower,” wrote the seller, MGDavis. “Motor is a 427/425 out of another ’66 Corvette, and was not decked when overhauled […] Listing this car for my father, a 50-year Corvette collector, who is over 70 and a speed bump on the information superhighway.”

No speed bumps here, though. There’s the aforementioned 427 V8 from another 1966 ‘Vette, linked to the convertible’s original four-speed manual. The 425 or so horses move through the transmission to the original rear end. The gearing is 4.11, up from the old 3.36 setup. Also: it has both its matching Nassau Blue hardtop, and a white soft top. It’s good to have options throughout the whole year.

“Dad has been buying and semi-restoring these things for 50 years now,” said the poster. “He doesn’t do a nuts and bolts frame-off very often, though his red small block roadster got that treatment because I think he’s going to be buried in that one. He does the mechanicals that make it run reliably and the cosmetic stuff that makes for a pretty car, but not so involved that you are afraid to take out and drive. Because at the end of the day, he just loves driving Corvettes, always has.” What a great story.

The Illinois-based seller wanted $50,000 firm for the ’66 C2, but it appears a sale is now pending. Still, if you’re looking for a new-to-you-ride, your first stop should always be the Corvette Forum classifieds. Why not see what’s available today!
