C8 Corvette at Bowling Green Assembly Plant

We don’t know when Bowling Green C8 Corvette production will resume, but GM is already initiating new safety requirements.

After numerous delays, we have some exciting news for anyone still waiting for their 2020 Corvette to begin production. As reported by MLive, UAW GM Department Vice President and Director Terry Dittes sent a letter to union leadership to begin discussions with GM plant managers because they anticipate GM plants will “resume production schedules in the near future.”

“We are also encouraging you to start discussions based on your local agreements starting with how will our members be recalled,” Dittes wrote. “Discussions should be taking place now regarding safety protocols and the best way to protect our members and their families to stop the spread of (COVID-19) to others in our community when we return to work.

“These discussions should begin as soon as possible and our UAW-GM department staff representative and regional service representative should be included in all your discussions with the employer,” the message says.

General Motors Chairman and CEO Mary Barra meets with plant employees and leadership before announcing the company is adding a second shift and more than 400 hourly jobs at its Bowling Green Assembly plant Thursday, April 25, 2019 in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

When contacted by MLive-The Flint Journal, GM had no comment on the specifics or exact dates, but GM spokesman Jim Cain did say, “We are evaluating the situation regularly. When we do resume production, we will be following safety procedures developed to support ventilator and mask production, including extensive screening and cleaning, along with the use of masks.”

Along those same lines, Corvette Forum member vetteguy453 posted the following screenshot HERE in this thread of an email GM allegedly sent to GM Carriers and their partners:

Letter to GM Carriers

As you can see, GM plans to mandate new safety protocols and workshops before team members and partners return to GM facilities. And they’re also going to distribute as many ASTM-1 facial masks as possible to drivers while mandating carrier partners purchase their own approved face masks.
