A slight lowering job and a small visual brake upgrade make this already awesome C7 Grand Sport just that much better.

Many of us like to customize our Corvettes to suit our own personal tastes. Modifications don’t have to be expensive or in-depth to make a difference, though. Sometimes, simple modifications — like the ones we’re covering here today — really help a Corvette to look its best.

Corvette Forum Senior Member Randy Mackintosh — known here as rmackintosh — has owned his share of Corvettes. His most recent acquisition is this 2019 Corvette Grand Sport in Elkhart Lake Blue. It’s a stunning car, but it didn’t take long for Mackintosh to find things he wanted to change.

His first two upgrades were subtle, but in our opinion, they really improve the look of the car. The first change was painting the rear brake rotor hats with black high-temperature paint to match the fronts. Up front, the aluminum rotor hats are anodized. Out back, the steel hats are zinc coated, but one member, itchiesvette, points out that his started rusting right away.

Sweating the Small Stuff

Painting the hats sounds pretty simple, but it actually took a painstaking amount of work. According to Mackintosh, each side took about a half hour to 45 minutes to mask off. The hardware made it a challenge, and he admits that he had to touch up a few places with a Q-tip afterward. In addition, he had a lot of masking to do on the car itself to protect that beautiful Elkhart Lake Blue paint from overspray.

We’d say that the end result was worth all of the hard work. Corvette Forum Administrator Vetteman Jack  said it best. “Really good job on the rotors. That’s how it should have come from the factory.”

Modification number two will be familiar to a lot of Corvette owners. Mackintosh adjusted the leaf spring bolts to lower the car slightly. He says he “Only lowered the car about 1/2″ in the front and 5/8″ to 3/4″ in the rear…wanted more, but will let it settle for a while and see how it goes.”

These two modifications are subtle, but we can all agree that they definitely improved the look of Mackintosh’s already beautiful Grand Sport. Sometimes, it’s the small, subtle things that make the biggest difference.
