When a 1,300 horsepower LT1 just wasn’t enough, this C7 Corvette received an LSX infusion to hit 216 mph.

Power and speed are endless endeavors, and those that choose to chase both are rarely satisfied. Case in point – Mike Stout’s C7 Corvette. Stout turned to Vengeance Racing to put together what he hoped would be the baddest C7 Corvette on the planet, and after its second iteration, he may have just achieved that goal.

When this car was originally put together, it was powered by a Late Model Engines 416 cubic-inch LT1 mill topped with a ProCharger F1X and fitted with ported heads and a custom cam. That combo was certainly no slouch, pumping out 1,305 horsepower and 1,000+ pound-feet of torque. It was also good enough for a 9.0-second flat quarter-mile and 198 miles-per-hour in the half-mile.

But Stout wanted to go faster, so he took his C7 back to Vengeance Racing for another redo. This time around, the team fitted his ride with a 427 cubic-inch LSX, two Borg Warner 88mm turbos, and a ProEFI ECU. That mighty mill was mated to a Powerglide gearbox and 9-inch Ford rear end, then put on the dyno, where it subsequently put on a brutal display of noise and fire-breathing fury.

Unfortunately, Vengeance isn’t talking power numbers on this new combo just yet. But we do know that it’s a whole heck of a lot faster with this setup, as Stout ran a blazing 7.8-second quarter-mile at 186 mph. He also smoked the half mile with a 216 mph top speed, a mark that shattered the old C7 Corvette world record by nearly 20 mph.

Now that’s what we call an impressive feat. Stout has been chasing the 200 mph barrier for some time, as has every other C7 half-mile racer out there in the world. Many have gotten ever-so-close, including Stout. But after finally ditching the LT1 for a seriously boosted LSX, that dream quickly became a reality.

It’s also notable that this drivetrain is still fairly new. There’s likely even more left in it, and we imagine that Stout and Vengeance aren’t done fine tuning it just yet. So perhaps smashing the half-mile record for C7 Corvettes was just the beginning of this amazing journey. Or, at least, we certainly hope it is.
