Keep yourself occupied with ChrisFix’s fun, simple detailing project that has great results!

Bored? Looking for something fun and easy to do to your Corvette that has a big payoff? We’ve got you covered. We just have to hit the way-back machine to December 2014, and watch this video from one of our favorite YouTube channels, ChrisFix.

He says, “For car shows, having the glass perfectly clean is essential for bringing home the trophies.” he goes on to say that having perfectly-clean glass is ideal for a daily driver, too — being able to see better and having water bead up is a real benefit for everyday use.

The best part is, you probably won’t need anything you don’t already have at home. Of additional interest to car guys like us is the car he’s using to demonstrate — a beautiful red 1996 Corvette.

To start, simply pick your favorite window cleaner and spray it on — do one half of the windshield at a time. While some folks swear by paper towel or newspaper, ChrisFix recommends using a microfiber to clean.

Make sure to clean the edges near the weatherstripping before the next step. Using some warm water and a bit of paint cleaning clay, go over your windshield to pick up debris embedded in the glass. Anything not stuck in the clay is now loosened up, so clean the glass once again with your favorite cleaner.

Finishing Touches

The result is impressive. ChrisFix remarks, “Now this windshield is looking awesome. There’s a nice shine to it, and we’re not even done yet.” Wipe down the windshield again to make sure it’s dry before the final step.

Everything up until now has been prep work for the final step — paste wax. Gently buff the paste wax onto your windshield. Keep in mind that a little goes a long way. Wait five to ten minutes, then buff it off with microfiber towel. Buff it one more time with a fresh towel to finish the job.

ChrisFix points out one last tip.”Make sure you pay attention to details and get wax off all of the black pieces and all the trim.” Don’t forget to clean your wiper blades with glass cleaner. If you don’t, the dirt stuck in your blades will undo all of your hard work with just one swipe.

With that done, your windshield will look better than ever, and best of all, it will repel water and bugs for a good six months or so. If you don’t park your Corvette outside or drive it in the rain, it might last even longer! Now get out there and have some fun in the garage!
