Regular Car Reviews Weighs in on the C8

A famously irreverent YouTuber with a cult following reviews the newest Corvette with surprising results.

If you’re not familiar with Regular Car Reviews on YouTube, you’re in for a ride today. RCR is hard to explain to the uninitiated, but we’ll try to do so succinctly. Start with one part Motorweek, add one part Wikipedia, pour in a few tablespoons of irreverent sketch comedy, add a heaping handful of irony, and you’ve got Regular Car Reviews.

The host, Mr. Regular, usually reviews older, more pedestrian hardware, hence the name of the channel. Today, he’s checking out the all-new 2020 C8 Corvette and providing his opinion, along with some Corvette history.

He doesn’t hold back with his praise of the C8. He enthusiastically explains that he thought that the C7 was pretty good by GM standards, but the C8 is amazing “on a global scale.” Mr. Regular is not alone in that sentiment — automotive journalists of all backgrounds have been calling the C8 Corvette a true world-class sports car.

He Actually Kind of Likes It!

Mr. Regular is known for sweating the small stuff, and he gushes over tiny trim and style details the way you or I would over, say, horsepower and skidpad numbers. Besides the interior materials, he also has high praise for the unique, and yet immediately intuitive HVAC controls.

Shockingly, he’s less impressed by the C8’s performance. He called it merely “adequate.” We’re thinking that the car’s owner probably didn’t let him exercise it much, if at all.

Mr. Regular’s co-host, The Roman, had more glowing things to say about the newest iteration of America’s sports car. In so many words, he says that the C8 is what he imagined the future would be like as a child — but better.

A major focus of the video is the strange times we live in. Last year’s UAW strikes and this year’s pandemic aren’t the worst storms the Corvette has weathered in its nearly eighty-year history. No, it’s faced much worse, which is explained in great detail.

It took a long time — a literal lifetime — for the mid-engine Corvette to finally see the light of day. Now that it’s here, it feels so right, in so many ways. Sure, things may be a mess right now, but as Mr. Regular explains in the beginning of the video, everything is going to be okay.
