Jeff Franz knew exactly what to wear when he brought his first Corvette home.
By now, we all know the classic Corvette owner stereotype. A middle aged guy, with cargo shorts, New Balance sneakers as pure white as the driven snow, and at least one article of branded clothing. If he’s not wearing a polo with the crossed flags embroidered on the left breast, you had better believe he’s rocking a Hawaiian shirt that would make the late, great Boyd Coddington jealous.
It’s a joke as tired as classic like “BMW owners don’t use turn signals,” “Subaru owners vape,” and “Mustangs kill crowds.” At this point, it’s been run into the ground like a fence post. That doesn’t mean that it’s not still hilarious when someone puts a new spin on it.
That’s just what proud new C8 Corvette owner Jeff Franz did when he picked up his 2020 Corvette last week. He ordered his beautiful Elkhart Lake Blue 2LT with the Z51 package, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, front axle lift, and black wheels. It’s a great looking car.
Riding in Style
We’re distracted from the car, though, by the downright perfect Corvette owner getup Franz wore for delivery. When I spoke to him, Franz stated that it was an idea shared between him and his son. His outfit is almost as impressive as the new Corvette’s skidpad numbers. Let’s look at the build sheet.
Like his Corvette, Franz is decked out with all the right options. We’re talking fresh New Balance sneakers for the ultimate in traction, with white athletic socks pulled all the way up for optimal ankle protection. The denim jorts feature an ideal mix of comfort and utility, while the brown belt holds everything in place during high-performance maneuvers.
Tucked into those jorts is a Corvette-themed Hawaiian shirt, loud and proud, but classy, too. Topping it all off is the optional Corvette ball cap, which ties the whole thing together, in my opinion.
Franz clearly has a great sense of humor, and he’ll fit right in with us Corvette owners. This is his first Corvette, and as he says, his first true sports car. He’s no stranger to high performance, though.
He’s owned two Nissan GT-Rs, one of which is still owned by his son. Franz has clearly got a thing for turbo performance. Back in the 1980s, he owned a turbocharged Buick Regal. He took great pride in telling me that he used to chase down L98 Tuned Port Corvettes like mine. Having spent time behind the wheel of both, I bet he won a few of those races.
Does that mean he plans on turbocharging his Corvette? Not exactly. For now at least, he’s planning on enjoying his first Corvette stock. Why mess with perfection?
