New C8 or Classic C2? Which Is the Best Choice for You?

1966 Corvette

Classic or new? You can have either for about the same amount of money. Which would make the better weekend cruiser.

A nicely equipped C8 Corvette is going to cost you in the neighborhood of $80,000. A well-maintained C2 Corvette will cost you roughly the same. Do you go with the latest and greatest, or do you stick with the classic? The scenario assumes that your Corvette will be a fun second or even third car. It is for weekend cruising, taking to car shows, and spirited drives on your favorite back roads. You are not looking for a track day hero or something to use as your daily driver. If that is what you need, the C8 is the better choice. It is not that a classic C2 could not handle those duties. In fact, we love to see examples of the C2 being used that way. However, the C8 is better suited for that out of the box.

Let us assume you already have the Chevy Blazer for the boring day to day stuff, and you have no interest in track days. You want a fun car, and the Corvette is what you have your heart set on. It is true that the newest model is going to have some advantages, but the C2 can make a hell of a case for itself as well. We examine each choice, but in the end, it is your decision. Where are you putting your money?
