Nationwide Search Reveals Some Pretty Terrible C8 Markups
Dealers are currently marking up new C8 models as much as $25,000 in an effort to take advantage of demand.
There isn’t much not to like about the all-new C8 Corvette. It’s fast, awesome to drive, great to look at, and quite a bargain to boot. But like any red hot new car model, some greedy dealerships are bound to take advantage of high demand. Especially now that the order books are closed for 2020. And while there are certainly some dealers out there settling for MSRP on new ‘Vettes, others continue to slap laughable markups on them.
We’re obviously not fans of large ADMs, and neither are our members. So we thought that it might be prudent to point out some of the most ridiculous markups we could find across the country. Call it a public service. After an extensive search, we found C8 Corvettes with anywhere from $10k to $25k added on to their MSRP, which is pretty insane. A grand or two, sure. But the price of a new compact sedan? No way.
The worst offender we could find comes to us from Ken Garff Chevrolet in American Fork, Utah. There, they’re advertising a 3LT Corvette for $109,455. Problem is, the car carries an MSRP of just $84,455, which makes for a cool $25k profit. We found a slew of cars with $20k markups as well, including another 3LT from Mid-State Chevrolet & Buick in Sutton, West Virginia. And this 2LT from Chapman Chevrolet in Philadelphia.
New Smyrna Beach Chevrolet in Florida isn’t quite as greedy, as they’re only asking for $18,103 over sticker for this 3LT Corvette. If you only have an extra 10k to spare, you’ve got plenty of options as well. Including this 2LT from Victorville Chevrolet in California and another $100k+ 3LT from Beaver Chevrolet in Jacksonville, Florida. Fortunately, not everyone is being this greedy. There are lots of single digit markups out there, including including this 2LT from Rio Vista Chevrolet in Buellton, California.
And believe it or not, there are plenty of 2020 Corvette examples for sale with no markup whatsoever. So it’s good to know that there are some dealers out there who aren’t looking to make a quick buck. And personally, we hope that folks buy those cars, leaving the heavily marked up models sitting on dealer lots, collecting dust.
