Hot Threads: What Car Would Make You Sell Your Corvette?
Is it okay to love other cars besides Corvettes? Of course. But is there a particular car you love MORE than your Corvette?
A recent forum thread had me wondering what it would take for my Corvette devotion to waver. Longtime CorvetteForum member ErikwithAK01 spent his twenties building his 2001 Corvette coupe until the ultimate track toy. However, a recent change in his garage has him wanting to move on.
Apparently, he and his father share the same dream car: a Jaguar E-Type. Recently, they bought a 1968 Jaguar E-Type 2+2, and they’re currently restoring it. Their shared project is taking a lot of time — and a lot of money — to complete, and ErikwithAK01 has made the difficult choice to sell or part out his Corvette.
We all love Corvettes here, but I’m wondering just how devoted we are. Is there a car that could convince you to give up your Corvette? I had to think about this question myself, and the answer was a difficult one.
Plenty of Love to Go Around
I love Corvettes, but I love lots of other cars, too. I currently own more cars than I probably should, including an air-cooled Porsche 911 Carrera and a Ford Mustang Cobra. I love all of my cars for different reasons, and many are cars that I grew up dreaming of owning someday.
If anything, it’s my current Corvette project that is distracting me from finishing up some of my other projects. In fact, I’m planning on selling my low-mileage, mint condition 1988 Mazda RX-7 to help fund the Corvette project. I’ve always had a thing for 1980s and 1990s Japanese sports cars, and I’ve owned this one for ten years. But at this point, I like the Corvette more.
As far as selling my ‘Vette and trading up, I’m not planning on it. That’s easy for me to say, though — I already own all of my dream cars, Corvette included.
If you get the chance to park your dream car in the garage, I think you should go for it. If this crazy year has taught us anything, it’s that life is short and precious.
Of course, if your dream car is your Corvette, then you should make it a goal to drive the wheels off of it every chance you get. No matter what races through your mind when you close your eyes, make it happen — you won’t regret it. All of your friends here at Corvette Forum will support you, even if it’s not a Corvette!
