C7 Corvette based Genovation GXE continues to raise the EV bar by resetting records everywhere it goes.

It’s been a few years now since the C7 Corvette-based, all-electric Genovation GXE was first unveiled. In the time since, Genovation’s engineers have worked steadily toward their goal of making the GXE the most capable EV on the planet. Recently, they came one step closer by hitting an incredible 211.9 miles-per-hour at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Florida, which is a new EV record.

If that isn’t enough, the Genovation GXE also rolled into Thunderhill Raceway recently with two-time 24 Hours of Daytona class winner and test driver extraordinaire Randy Pobst behind the wheel. There, Pobst managed a best lap of 1:21.16. To put that in perspective, the C8 Z51 has run a best of 1:22.72 at the same track, which makes this feat rather impressive, indeed, as well as a new record for production electric vehicles.

Of course, there are some caveats to these impressive results. For starters, the GXE is prohibitively expensive, with a price tag of around $750,000. It’s also quite rare, with just 75 slated to be produced. Regardless, the GXE is certainly an engineering feat and a small sample of what an electric C8 Corvette might be capable of.

The GXE is chock-full of cool tech, including an active tilting rear wing, dual-speed compression shocks, a 60 kWh battery pack, and two electric motors that churn out a combined 800 horsepower and 718 pound-feet of torque. Underneath, the GXE rolls on a custom aluminum frame with carbon ceramic brakes and a set of carbon fiber wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup II tires.

Despite a slew of weight-savings measures, the GXE still weighs in at a heavy 4,500 pounds, which makes these results even more impressive. As has been the case with Tesla’s performance models, the GXE is rewriting the rules of physics as it goes. Over its five years of development, Genovation has made significant progress, and we imagine that the GXE still has more potential left to untap.

Thus, it’s no surprise that GM wants to electrify the C8. With the right tech, it certainly has the potential to be an incredible performance machine. And while that may make traditional gearheads scoff, one face-melting ride might just be enough to convince them the future is going to be just fine.
