Exclusive Comparison: C8 Corvettes Bests the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS
C8 edges out pricey Porsche in virtually every category, making it a clear winner in a detailed comparison test.
Several C8 Corvettes are hitting the streets, and we’re seeing more and more reviews of the new mid-engine masterpiece pop up. All of them supremely positive, of course. But here at Corvette Forum, we have a unique advantage over your average automotive reviewer. Many of our members own not just C8s, but also other cars of different makes and models. That includes bobgolub, who already has a Porsche 718 Boxster GTS. So after taking delivery of a gorgeous new 2020 Corvette, he posted up his comparison of the two in this thread.
“Handling: on the back roads, I feel the Corvette handles better. It is more planted, yet still nimble. Steering is very precise and direct. No understeer with factory alignment at reasonable speeds. It feels more confidence inspiring to me. Remains to be seen how it handles when pushed. I bought this to primarily use as a track car, and that is the way I use the Boxster. The various driving modes in the C8 are amazing. You can really feel the difference, especially in the steering and throttle response. The 718 has three drive modes, but the difference between them seems much less. In the Corvette, it feels like you are in different cars. Win to the C8.”
The Corvette also tops the Porsche in terms of interior and sound system. But the OP considers the styling of both to be, well, a draw. And surprisingly enough, the Boxster actually edges out the Corvette in terms of utility, as it has more cargo space. The Porsche can’t top the C8’s engine sounds, however, nor it’s value. Amazingly, the Boxster cost a whopping $25k more in this spec. However, there are a couple of things the OP doesn’t like about his new ‘Vette.
“The comp seats are a bit snug in the lower thigh bolsters, and I am 5’8″ and 145 lbs. They should have adjustable bladders in them like the upper bolsters. The rear view camera mirror is difficult for me to use. This is because I have multi focal lens implants from cataract surgery. And at least for me, it’s hard to get a clear picture with a quick glance at the mirror. Also, with the top down on a sunny day, there is way too much glare. Overall, however, I’m very pleased so far.”
Overall, the OP did a great job comparing his C8 to his Boxster. So be sure and head over HERE to check out the full review of each, and the fascinating discussion that took place afterward!
