C8 Corvette in White

Corvette Forum C8 Corvette owners have experienced a few issues, ranging from fluid leaks to interior trim appearance.

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is the first in Stingray to have the engine mounted behind the driver. As the first model year of the all-new chassis design, there are many new components at work in the C8. New components general lead to some unexpected issues, and the new Corvette isn’t immune to the freshman woes.

C8 Corvette owners on the forum have discussed any issues with their new Chevy in individual threads, but “MauiC8” started to compile all of the problems with the new car. There haven’t been any common problems and most of the issues are minor, but this thread is already a great resource for C8 owners.

C8 Corvette Problem Compilation

When the OP first started his thread in the C8 General Discussion section, he began by explaining the purpose of the thread.

Now that C8s are starting to roll out, I thought it might be good to start a single thread of issues people have noticed, however big or small they may be, to raise awareness for what other members should look for and what GM can continue to improve upon. I’m hoping this can be made into a “sticky” to find it easily and requesting everyone to please keep it positive and not bash GM, Chevy, or the dealers and not to compare any issues to other manufacturers as that wouldn’t be helpful to any of us.

C8 Corvette Transmission Leak

Next, the OP shared pictures and brief descriptions of problems that were discussed elsewhere in the forum. This includes a C8 with windows that operate on their own, a leaky transmission, a broken half shaft and some issues with interior leather. He also included several pictures of C8 problems that he collected from around the forum.

Owners Speak Up

The first few replies discuss whether such a thread is necessary. Some insist that these cars are too new and too few have been delivered. However, those in favor of the thread point out that it is a great resource for owners to share their problems and read about others.

From there, several members posted to share problems with their own C8 Corvette Stingrays. The first was “Tracy”, whose cousin is having a particularly odd issue.

My cousin’s 3LT—VIN00403—experienced at self-blowing horn soon after he took delivery last Wednesday. When driving it would toot on its own, or respond to the slightest finger pressure. Straight back to dealer, no cause or solution known to me just yet. Maybe a horn pad contactor issue, maybe needs a new wheel….dunno yet. I’ll post back as soon as I learn of the fault.

Edit: As of 3/18 I have no new info on this, other than the tech confirming “You just barely touch it. Honk!” They suspect it’s an airbag/install/clearance issue, and are talking to HQ before digging into that complex wheel looking for a problem. Will report back when I know more.

Edit: Nothing yet as of 3/20. Lots going on in the world vs.a honking horn in a Chevy

C8 Corvette Dash Issue

The next was “C8Pro”, who is having a far more troubling problem. He posted about it, then posted several updates in his initial reply.

Today just before reaching my first 400 miles the transmission started only changing from gears 2-4-6-8…. turned off and on and same issue… later on the way back home (good thing I was close to home) it wouldn’t change from gear 2 for a while than it started again back to head 2-4-6-8… its like the car doesn’t recognize gears 1-3-5-7. I guess it’s the price to pay for been in the first batch of production…. I’ll be contacting my dealer tomorrow.

Could help myself and restarted the car and back to normal…. I didn’t try putting it in reverse the first time… but in any case just drove the car for some 20 miles and just like if nothing ever happened! Happy for that but concerned about when will this issue shows again.

If anyone has experienced something similar, please reply and let me know.

Besides this issue the car has been just pure joy… perfect in every way.

I will keep updates as GM is contacted and I get information about this issue!

i got my car in service today… they believe it has to do with the car learning the driver patterns and so on. They uploaded a refresh update in my odd gears into the system and most importantly I got my car back the same day!!!! I will inform periodically on this situation.. my hope is that all is good and taken care now!!!! C8 rocks and yes I will be in line to buy it again.. it’s beyond imagination.

Hi folks, my Corvette was serviced yesterday 3/24/2020. The technician was able to recover 3 codes (P0700, P2838, P2839) if anyone can help me understand what they mean that will be awesome.

With intense help from GM tech support, the transmission programming for odd gears was reset and reloaded. GM believes it is possible that is related to the learning mode and so on.

I got my Corvette back at the end of the day.

Take care for now!

Finally, in addition to some owners sharing their own dealings with problems mentioned above, “1Bridog” is having a problem with his paint.

After washing the C8,i noticed these small dots in the paint. Will be sending to paint correction and ceramic coat on Friday and will have them buffed out. Can’t feel them it’s in the paint or clear? Found them all on the back hatch area….both sides.
