Corvette Stingray has a full aftermarket exhaust system, making between 460 and 480 horsepower at the rear wheels.

The C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has already proven that it is an awesome drag car. The high tech launch control system yields fully-stock 0-to-60 times in the 2-second range. Owners and media testing has revealed quarter-mile times in the mid-to-low 11-second range in stock form. That puts the C8 among the quickest stock cars on the road, but this is a Corvette. It is made for high speed and sharp corners, serving as one of the greatest American sports cars ever.

It isn’t always easy to test the top speed ability of a C8 Corvette. This is especially true in 2020, when so many racing events have been canceled. Fortunately, the folks from Race Motive still hosted their event on October 24 at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania. Among the many high-performance machines on hand was the red C8 Corvette shown here from the ImportRace YouTube channel. This is the shop car of East Coast Supercharging. While it isn’t supercharged yet, it has been modified a bit before heading to the NASCAR track for some high-speed fun.

C8 Corvette on the Track

ECS Corvette Shop Car

The video begins with a short introduction with Alex of East Coast Supercharging. He explains that this is the company’s shop car and it is outfitted with an array of exhaust upgrades. The LT2 has been equipped with headers and high-flow catalytic convertors from Kooks, along with the custom ECS center-exit exhaust system. He states that this car is making between 460 and 480 horsepower at the rear wheels. That is a pretty big gap, but in any case, it is a solid upgrade from the typical stock dyno numbers on the 440-450 range at the wheels.

The driver of this C8 also points out that East Coast Supercharging will have more offerings for the new Corvette once tuning has been unlocked for the LT2. That reminds us that the power gains from the exhaust are all based on the stock tune. Tuning will surely make more power with a full exhaust system swap.

The rest of this C8 Corvette is stock, right down to the tires. Tire pressure is set to 27 psi for these runs. This Stingray is a Z51 model, so it has the magnetic dampers, which are set to a “softer” setting during these high speed runs. This allows for better front-to-rear weight transfer, which helps with traction.

C8 on the NASCAR Track

After the informative introduction of this C8 Corvette Stingray, we head out to the track. This Race Motive event took place at the same Pocono Raceway that hosts NASCAR events. The drivers compete in pairs, coming out of turn four at 65 miles-per-hour. When they hit the cones, they both hammer down for a third of a mile. While it gives the drivers a chance to battle at high speed in a safe environment, it also measures the vehicles’ top speed abilities in a measured stretch of smooth road.

C8 versus Supra

The new Corvette begins by taking on a new Toyota Supra. We don’t have any details on the BMW-powered Supra, but it is pretty clear that it is modified. In stock form, the Supra packs 335 horsepower and weighs around 3,400 pounds. This Corvette is making at around 470 horsepower at the wheels while weighing a couple hundred pounds more. Based on the way that the Toyota pulls, there is no way that it is stock, but on this run, the C8 turns in a solid number of 133.39 miles-per-hour.

Later on in the video, the Corvette takes on a Mazdaspeed Mazda 3. The hot hatch is no match for the new Stingray, trapping just 114 miles-per-hour while the C8 Stingray hit 134.67. This second run gives us a good chance to hear the LT2 roar with this full aftermarket exhaust setup.
