Doug DeMuro Calls the 2020 C8 Corvette ‘The Hottest Car of the Year’

YouTuber thinks Chevy’s bold new Corvette absolutely drops a segment-wide bomb and forces rivals to rethink their plans.

We may sound like a broken record at this point, but the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is indisputably revolutionary. Basically, all future exotics will need to lower their prices or drastically increase their performance because of the C8. The new model completely lives up to the hype. All things considered, that’s pretty amazing.

Doug DeMuro shared his thoughts about the C8 in a recent video. In typical DeMuro fashion, he pours over the car and gives viewers a close up of everything it comes equipped with. His conclusion is that the Corvette, while imperfect, boasts insane value while simultaneously being a great sports car.

Surprisingly Different

One of the more interesting and less discussed aspects of the new Corvette is the number of oddities it features. This is the area where DeMuro excels and he paints a picture of a Corvette packed with some interesting little tidbits. One thing that is bound to garner attention, once these appear en masse on America’s roadways, is the sequential turn signals. Automakers have sparingly equipped sequential turn lights on their cars. Ford put it on the Mustang. But the Corvette did things a bit differently. “You can see it turns on and then it gets progressively smaller, which is the opposite of most cars where the signal starts small and gets progressively larger,” says DeMuro. It’s a subtle way of saying that the Corvette is not like other cars, which is pretty cool.

Another thing the Corvette does differently concerns the front license plate. Most cars treat the issue without much of a thought. The dealer or owner just has to drill into the section of the bumper designed to accommodate the plate. Amazingly, Corvette engineers accounted for this problem and developed a hidden compartment that can be removed. It hides an area where a bracket can be mounted that allows the plate to be affixed to the car. “Obviously, this car is gonna look a lot better with no front license plate. It’s really going to screw up kinda the visual front styling and design of this car where everything comes to a point,” says DeMuro. Chevy clearly demonstrated their attention to detail with the Corvette. And in this area, it stands apart from the competition.

A Crazy Value

DeMuro pretty much immediately realized the Corvette’s greatness as soon as he got behind the wheel. He loved the roomy interior of the C8. Beyond that, he also noticed its immense power and refinement. “One thing you notice right away as you start really driving is the transmission is just so smooth. Everybody’s going to these dual-clutch transmissions now, but this is clearly one of the smoother ones. I’m in sport mode and you really don’t feel gear changes all that much,” says DeMuro. Additionally, the eight-speed Tremec is quick to shift through the gears.

Overall, DeMuro does not think the Corvette is perfect. But he does feel it is an absolute game-changer. “I love German cars and in my world Corvettes don’t beat 911s. Well, that’s changed,” says DeMuro. It’s true. People are going to sing praises of the C8 for the next several decades. Make sure you watch the video to see all the cool stuff Chevy put into the new model.
