‘Corvette Forum’ Wants to Know: Any Non-Retirees Going to Daily Your C8?

The introduction of the C8 hasn’t changed the fact that members vary widely when it comes to how they drive their Corvettes.

If you were done with daily grind and retired, once you took delivery of your shiny new C8 Corvette, would you daily drive it?

That’s the question that member Tool Hoarder is asking, and as you can imagine, it’s prompted some great responses. From the sound of it, this isn’t his first go around with America’s Sports Car, and he’s had a collection that many in the membership would envy.

This will be my 6th Corvette. I’ve tried really hard to keep them all very nice and always think “I’m going to keep this one forever”, but alas I don’t own any of them. My epiphany is I never keep them forever and any anxiety over keeping them ‘perfect’ is wasted. Instead of fretting over the condition of the car I’d rather just drive it. I’ve tracked and modified every car I’ve had. I usually put 10K miles a year on them and track them 6-8 weekends a year. I’ve had show cars, I’ve had full-blown race cars.

For this car I think I’ve learned my lesson… going to do clear bra on the front and lower sides of the car, buy an extended warranty, some nice wheels, rack up the miles, and let the local Chevy store service the car.

My goal is to put at least 100K miles on it before getting a Z06 HTC in 3-4 years.

Now, as we’ve been around these parts for a long time, we know this is exactly the kind of question that can cause a thread to spiral into not-so-friendly territory. Like the eternal struggle between fans of stick shifts and automatics, or the statistics-heavy debates where oil preferences are ferociously expounded upon, it’s just one of those topics. Which is why we’ve been stoked to see the awesome tone this conversation is taking.

We’ve also been a little surprised, we have to say, to see just how many folks are ready to rack up the miles on their new toys. Which is great — because we love catching glimpses of C8s out on the road. Obviously, we know it’s not a C8, and we also take slight issue with the idea the C7 is an “appliance,” but we do love the pic of member kratedisease’s shot of his baby sleeping under a blanket of snow. For what it’s worth, Washagain’s  attitude on driving his Corvettes most reflects our own.

I have a world class nasty commute to Miami. I have owned five Corvettes and have been happy to use each one as a daily driver. I am not going to open the door with a hankie or laminate it. I bought it for me and not the next guy and will drive it that way every day. Can’t wait for my C8.

We also totally dug the comment that bbbad2dabone posted — and loved the awesome picture of his burly street rod in a winter wonderland.

I have 6 cars so none of them get driven every day, but I do drive all of them anywhere. I have owned 6 Corvettes and taken very good care of each except the one I totaled. I’m going to drive the crap out of this one.

There’s no word on exactly what led to the totaled Corvette he mentioned, but we’d say if your business is driving awesome cars on the regular, that risk is part of the deal.

To be honest, we think that since the folks voicing opinions here are early adopters, that factors into the widespread desire to rack up some miles. What do you think? Would your C8 be a daily driver or a more special occasion transportation? Head to the thread to join the conversation, and read all how about your fellow members enjoy their dream machines!
