Considering how well received the Z07 package was on the C7, the C8’s side skirts aren’t doing it for our forum members.
Is it just us, or are the Corvette side skirts for the C8 just not striking a cord? According to our forum members, that’s certainly the case. The Carbon Flash Metallic grounds effects kit was spotted on a Torch Red C8. Posted by Corvette Forum member, skegel1, it presents the first time most of us have seen this option. At least for the first time outside of the online configurator.
The opinions were mixed, but with a heavy lean towards “thanks but no thanks.” The lines of the skirts and front lip don’t really follow any lines currently on the car. The dark pictures don’t really help us out though, nor that they were taken by a cell phone. As pointed out by forum member CRABBYJ, the contrasting black seems to be imbalanced rearward. The winglet on the side skirt is almost aligned with the side scoop, but not quite.
Prospective owners of a Corvette are presented a few options for side skirts. More subtle side skirt extensions, or the much more aggressive ground effects kit. Both options can be chosen in body color, painted in Carbon Flash Metallic, or Visible Carbon Fiber. Depending on the color of your car, the contrast of black may either work great, or not at all. The cost might also be a determining factor since the body color options are a fourth the cost of carbon fiber pieces.
We’d have a more solid opinion on the matter by seeing the package in person. The contrasting colors and black accessories work far better on some cars than they do on others. Then there’s the added prospect of getting the full ground affects package with the high rise rear wing. Would that perhaps balance things out?
The Z07 package was well received, so it is interesting that this kit is polarizing. The issue might not even arise from the concept of the skirts themselves, but their ability to follow the continuity of the car’s existing lines. As some have mentioned, something seems a bit “off” with the package. But let us keep in mind what as Sir Francis Bacon once said, “there is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion.”
