C8 Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel

C8 Corvette steering wheel is made by MACarbon and it looks great, but it is quite pricey.

When the C8 Corvette Z06 reaches showrooms, it is expected that it will feature a carbon fiber-clad steering wheel. Unfortunately, there is no carbon fiber trimmed steering wheel offered for the C8 Stingray, even with the optional carbon fiber interior package. Forum member “Bzabodyn” ordered his new Stingray with the carbon fiber interior trim, but he wanted a steering wheel with the glossy, woven material to match. Since he was unable to order it from the factory, he turned to MACarbon for a custom piece and he shared the process with the community.

The end result looks great, as the C8 Corvette wheel looks amazing with carbon fiber trim, but some members argue that the upgrade was too expensive for their tastes.

C8 Corvette Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel Introduction

When the OP first shared his experience in upgrading his C8 Corvette Stingray steering wheel to a carbon fiber design, he began with a basic explanation of his plan.

CF not only stands for CorvetteForum – it also stands for Carbon Fiber 😉 The second I got my C8 in – mines a 2LT with carbon fiber interior trim – I knew I wanted to do a carbon fiber steering wheel to match. I love the shape of the wheel and wanted to retain that but did think it was a tad thin compared to other high performance cars I’ve owned (particularly my R8 V10 which had the best feeling steering wheel of any car I’ve owned).

Even though there will be several “EBay” sellers out there that will be selling these types of CF steering wheels, I knew for the C8 I wanted to use the best in the business – MACarbon. I ordered a replacement steering wheel from Cultrag Perfomance so I could keep the original wheel. This is definitely not a “cheap” modification by any stretch of the imagination (all in with the extra wheel expect it to be $2500+/-) but it will be well worth it in the end for the one thing that will really be a statement piece in the interior. As an added bonus, this will retain the heating element also.

The OP also included some pictures from the beginning of the process, showing the factory steering wheel as it is disassembled and fitted with the carbon fiber trim. In this first post, we get to see the carbon fiber in its finished form, while the rest of the wheel still needs to be reassembled.

Can’t wait to see it!

Very nice. Similar to the leaked pics of the coming Z06 steering wheel.

While others posted to share their interest, there are always a few naysayers in every discussion. In this case, the criticism focused on pricing.

The first person to find fault with the pricing was “The lark”, who prefers the eBay finds.

There is a guy on eBay doing these wheels. He’s in Ohio I think.

I purchased a new wheel from the dealer only 425$. I sent it to him and he charged 500 to do the carbon top and bottom. And leather or micro fiber on the sides.

His rating is very good, and he’s done a lot of wheels. Looks like great quality work.

A short time later, “Papallion” added his two cents on the pricing naysayers.

OP – You’ll never win the counterpunching battle with the I found one cheaper crowd. So get yours done with your vendor on your budget. Post a pic when you have it installed. And toss them the universal symbol.

To which the OP replied with the following.

Ha – thanks for the laugh. If other companies build a better or similar product for cheaper more power to them. But in my 20yrs of modifying/customizing all kinds of cars from the C8 to a 68 GTX restomod, I’ve found you usually get what you pay for and it more expensive the second time around correcting it.

I’ll definitely continue posting pics and I’m excited to share the end product.

The Finished Product

A few days after sharing the first pictures, the OP shared pictures of his completed C8 Corvette steering wheel.

Couldn’t be happier. Fit and finish is better than OEM including doing the entire hub in leather. Too hard at this point to do the button surrounds or replace the paddles with CF but we’ll see what comes up in the future. For now, this is exactly what I wanted and can’t wait to get it swapped out.

We think that it looks incredible and we can’t wait for pictures of this custom piece installed in the OP’s 2020 Corvette Stingray.
