Can the C8 Slay the Dodge Demon in a Drag Race?

We’ve been blessed with a mid-engine C8, naturally, a drag race is the best way to test the limits of its traction control.

What happens when you put a C8 up against a Dodge Demon in a drag race? Well, Throttle House set out to answer whether or not the C8’s launch control is really that good.

Hosts Thomas Holland and James Engelsman love the C8 as much as we do, but aren’t completely sold on its ability to take down the king of the drag strip. Will quick grip save the day, or will the Demon’s tremendous horsepower be too much to handle?

C8 vs Demon Drag Race Is No Contest… On Paper

“Yes, this is a strange pairing,” starts Engelsman “But we’ve heard so much about how good the launch control is in the new Corvette. We figured why not put it up against the king?”

Under the hood of the Dodge Demon lay a 6.2 L Hemi V8 with a staggering 808 hp courtesy of its 2.7L supercharger.

The C8, on the other hand, has 313 hp less than the Demon points out Throttle House. 495 for those of you about to break out your calculator app…

So according to the spec sheet, this shouldn’t even be a race. But honestly, when do things ever go according to plan?

“They [Dodge Demons] are absolutely impossible to launch on a non-prepped surface,” shares Engelsman “Completely impossible. Whether he uses manual shifting or the automatic, it is absolutely nuts.” So maybe that mid-engine rear-wheel-drive setup might be able to lay down some magic.

1/4 Mile at a Time

After a hilariously out of place greenscreen go-girl drops the flag, the two vehicles lay down their best launch. The C8 pulls off the line in wicked fashion, while the Demon is a bit slippery to get going.

The C8 pulls off an easy win in the 1/4 mile despite the Demon gaining ground quickly towards the end. It’s good to know horsepower isn’t everything.

“The greatest trick the Demon ever pulled was convincing the world it could maintain traction,” adds Engelsman.

But the victory lap couldn’t last forever. To no one’s surprise, the C8 promptly got swamped on the rolling drag race. No need to go into detail there… You can’t win them all.

Tie Game

“So there we have it. The car made in Canada tossed its manners aside and just muscled it’s way past the C8,” says  Holland “But if there was one thing we took from this day it’s that the new Corvette has some serious legs.”

All jokes aside, the C8 really does put up a good fight. At the end of the day, if you can’t put the power down to the asphalt, what’s the point?
