C8 Corvette vs F8 Ferrari: A Tale of Two Mid-Engines

2020 Corvette

The C8 and F8 are separated by three letters and hundreds of thousands of dollars. We make a case for each.

When Chevrolet decided to make the new C8 Corvette a mid-engine design it pushed it into a whole new league. The Corvette has long battled the Porsche 911 but the C8 is capable of hunting even bigger game. Around the same time the new Corvette hit the streets a new mid-engined V8 Ferrari also broke cover. The F8 Tributo represents the latest and greatest from the folks at Maranello. It is a wonderful car without question, but the folks in Bowling Green have something pretty special as well.

A typical car buyer may never actually cross-shop the Ferrari and the Chevy but that doesn’t mean we can’t. Besides, some folks do seem to be confused over which car they prefer so we are here to help. Even putting the Corvette in this conversation is a major accomplishment. However, the Corvette is not here just to earn a participation award. It makes a damn strong case for being the better overall choice outright. Both sides land some heavy blows. Which one will come out on top? Let’s take a look.

Advantage C8 Corvette – MSRP

Well this one is obvious right? Let’s put crazy dealer markups aside for the moment. Both of these cars can carry price premiums above MSRP, so we will focus on sticker price. A well-equipped C8 can be had for about $75,000. The F8 is going to set you back about $300,000 and can go much higher. If you have a well-paying job, you can buy the Corvette. For the F8 you need to own the company.

A $200K+ price gap is massive. You could get four new Corvettes if you want. Or build the craziest one-off C8 in the world with diamond encrusted headlights if that is your thing. Maybe you go with a C8 and a summer condo somewhere. The point is, the price difference is miles wide, can the Ferrari justify it?
