Generally, we like to think of folks in the automotive press as being decent drivers. After all, we spend a pretty good portion of our time behind the wheel of all sorts of vehicles. Not just on public roads, but on race tracks and even off-road trails. But the sad reality is, not everybody that covers the automotive world is what you might call a “skilled” driver. Or even a good one. And that fact was on clear display in a now-deleted video that was uploaded by YouTuber Corvette Nut yesterday, February 18. In it, an Accelerate Yellow C8 Corvette makes an abrupt maneuver that nearly takes out a trio of motorcycle riders.

This appears to have happened earlier this week at the 2020 Corvette Stingray First Drive, which Corvette Forum is currently attending as well. (NOTE: that’s definitely not us.) We’re not sure who was, but clearly they made a poor decision that nearly resulted in disaster. From one of the motorcycle rider’s viewpoints, you can clearly see the very bright C8 off in the distance as they roll up on it.

Everything is fine until the ‘Vette driver suddenly hits the brakes, coming to a complete stop in the middle of the road. The riders are forced to hit the brakes pretty hard and go around it. Thankfully, they weren’t following any closer. We’re guessing the C8 driver didn’t see them in their rear-view mirror. But that’s not an excuse for pulling a U-turn in the middle of a road like this. Granted, there isn’t much of shoulder on the road, but this isn’t exactly a proper location to turn around.

Thus, it’s pretty hard to give the Corvette driver any slack here. This was just a bad decision, and nothing else. When you’re driving on a twisty scenic road like this one, you can’t just assume there’s nobody behind you. Even if you don’t see anybody back there. And you most certainly don’t just abruptly make a U-turn in the middle of this kind of road, either. But as we’ve unfortunately seen far too often, you don’t have to be a good driver to be in the business.
