C7 Owner Gives First Impressions of C8 After Break-in Drive
Natural progression has many owners moving from a C7 to the C8. Does the new C8 retain the C7’s well-loved attributes?
With the new flood of C8 reviews coming out from a number of outlets, we get a perspective of what the car is like. But what about the perspective from someone who has a C7, with a C8 Corvette on order? That’s what YouTube channel Cars, Costs, and Technology put together with this video. The CC&T host is a current C7 and former C6 owner. The host has a C8 on order and sourced a break-in mileage C8 to drive to get an initial impression.
CC&T says the first thing you notice is the environment around you. “The view is so much different than if you owned a Corvette from the past,” CC&T says. Obviously, with the engine behind you, the view out the front is much better, but the view out back is a compromise. Chevrolet knew this might be an issue so on 2LT and 3LT models, you get a glass and electronic rearview mirror. Of using it, CC&T says, “the rearview camera mirror is very very helpful. It makes sure you’re able to see a full range of view out of the back. I have heard other reviews that said it was difficult to look at or adjust to. I felt it was enjoyable to use.”
Break-in mileage prevented the full use of the vehicle, but in everyday driving, this wasn’t needed to get an evaluation. Thankfully on the C8, fit and finish are superb. “The squeaks and rattles that were on my C6 and C7 [are something] I am sure you are familiar with if you owned a Corvette in the past. In the C8 I didn’t sense any of that going on, and we were on a more rough highway,” the host notes.
There are some issues that affect usability every day, mainly front and rear overhangs. “The car is lower than in the past, but I’m not sure of the exact measurements,” CC&T notes. Thankfully the C8 comes with the nifty nose-lift feature.
Overall though, the impression is substantial, and a huge upgrade from the C7. CC&T leaves us with some parting thoughts. The host says, “I’m sure you’ve heard the expression that you never want to meet your heroes… I was nervous that it wouldn’t live up to the hype when I went to drive it and experience it, but it definitely did.”
