C7 Corvette Grand Sport VIN #5 is Available at a Great Price!
Corvette Grand Sport offers Z06 handling with Stingray power, and C7 VIN #0005 is priced to sell.
Throughout the history of the Chevrolet Corvette, the Grand Sport name has been used to signify a high-performance package. Of course, the Grand Sport name was first introduced by Zora Arkus-Duntov back in 1963 as a lightweight GT racer. In 1996, the first Corvette Grand Sport street car was formally introduced. The popularity of the Grand Sport package exploded during the C6 generation. That success continued into the C7 era, offering premium handling performance without the high price of the Z06.
The Grand Sport was one of the most popular models during the C7 era, so it isn’t hard to find one on the used market. It is hard to find one in amazing shape with relatively low miles and an extremely low VIN. Fortunately, if you have been hunting for a low VIN, low mileage C7 Grand Sport with just about every option, this uniquely decorated Corvette that “Sivtec” posted for sale on the forum checks all of those boxes.

As you likely know, 3LT is the premium trim level for the Grand Sport, so it comes with all of the interior goodies. More importantly, this Corvette has the components of the Z07 package. This includes the carbon ceramic brakes and the Z06 aero bits. It is also a manual, which offers the most fun-to-drive factor.
As for the unusual wrap, we think that this car would appeal to more people if the seller removed the wrap and the decals. Not everyone wants a black Corvette with purple and white stripes. Even fewer want that look with random splashes of yellow here and there. Wrap aside, this car looks perfect.
C7 Grand Sport Features
The C7 Corvette Grand Sport is based on the Stingray, but it features a handful of optional items from the Stingray along with some key components from the Z06.
The heart of the Grand Sport is the 6.2-liter LT1, featuring the optional dry sump oiling system and dual mode exhaust system of the Stingray. The oiling system improves lubrication during spirited driving and the exhaust system lifts the engine output to 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. That engine is mated to the buyer’s choice of a 7-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic. In this case, the LT1 is paired with the manual transmission.
Next, the Grand Sport features the wider body and stance of the Z06. The wider body makes room for the wider wheels and tires while the specially-tuned magnetic suspension system provides the tight stance. When you combine the sticky rubber and high-performance suspension setup, the Grand Sport handles far better than the Stingray, but there is even more performance to be had.
Adding the Z07 package to the C7 Grand Sport introduces Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires measuring 285-30-19 up front and 335-25-20 out back. This upgrade package also includes improved high-speed aerodynamics, thanks to the front splitter and rear spoiler of the Z06.
Grand Sport History
The Grand Sport name was first used back in 1963 as a race-ready package for the then-new C2 Corvette Stingray. The 1963 Grand Sport race cars were powered by an aluminum V8 that delivered more than 550 horsepower, but there were many other differences from the street cars. The original Grand Sport had heavy-duty suspension, braking and engine cooling systems. They also had high volume fuel tanks and significant weight reduction by using thinner fiberglass for the body and aluminum framework components rather than steel. As a result, the 1963 Grand Sport was around a thousand pounds lighter than the Stingray.
The plan was to build 125 Grand Sport race cars, but General Motors executives pulled the plug on the program after only five were built.
The Grand Sport name resurfaced again in 1996 as a special edition model for the final year of the C4 era. There were 1,000 of these Admiral Blue Corvettes made, featuring the 330-horsepower LT4 engine, flared rear fenders and the wheel-and-tire package from the C4 ZR1.
The next Grand Sport was introduced in 2010 as an effective replacement for the Z51 package. The C6 Grand Sport was built on the “base” Corvette. The package came standard with the features of the previous Z51 handling package. This included stiffer springs, uniquely tuned shocks, Z06 brakes, lightweight wheels measuring 18 inches up front and 19 inches out back and the widened body of the Z06. There was also a package-specific manual transmission with the Grand Sport models and added cooling system components.
Of course, the next installment in Grand Sport history was the C7 model, detailed earlier in this piece.
Great Price
This 2017 Corvette Grand Sport is listed in the C7 Corvettes For Sale section with a price of $50,000. The seller is in the Phoenix, Arizona area. When we researched used Grand Sport pricing, we found that a C7 GS with 37,600 miles and the listed features in Phoenix has an estimated price range of $49,727 to $54,334. That price range comes from Kelley Blue Book and pertains to a car in “Excellent” condition, which is the website’s highest rating.
Shy of the wrap, which could be removed, this Corvette appears to meet the KBB criteria of excellent condition. This means that it is priced at the lower end of the private party range. If you are looking for a C7 Grand Sport in great shape that won’t break the bank, this could be your new car.
