Beautiful Split Window Coupe Brings Luxury To The C2 Corvette
Corvettes are known for being powerful, but this split-window coupe bucks that trend and is optioned to the nines with luxury features.
Every once in a while, a Corvette comes to our attention that really stands out. This Daytona Blue split-window coupe is one such car. The options under its curvaceous skin are seldom seen, as is the hue of its shiny Daytona Blue paint.
This particular Corvette is from Corvette Mike, and really is unlike other Corvettes of its era. Comfort took prescient over the output of the engine. Power steering, power brakes, and a Powerglide automatic transmission all make the driving experience easier. As well, only 278 customers chose the air conditioning option in 1963. Enjoyment on the trip is made possible by an AM/FM radio.
Think of the cars available back in the early ’60s and you can see how someone would want the luxury they were accustomed to in far larger vehicles. But until 1963, some of these options – air conditioning specifically – weren’t even available on Corvettes. Now, you could have a Corvette that is comfortable in any weather, and is no longer a chore to drive on those excessively hot days. Here is a Corvette that could now be enjoyed on far more days than other Corvettes. With a car this lovely, you’d want to savor the experience anyway.

This car’s odometer shows 59,032 miles, but the condition of the car is golden. In fact, the frame-off restoration of this split-window coupe was good enough to earn a National Corvette Restorers Society “Zora Arkus-Duntov Mark of Excellence Award.”

The Corvettes we most often long for are those with big engines and high speeds. But horsepower was still there. The optional 327 cubic inch engine has an output of 300 horsepower. Stout even by today’s standards. Although we can imagine that this car was enjoyed more often at relaxed speeds back in the day. Considering how we are seeing C8 buying trends, it is interesting to see the more uncommon options on older Corvette models. The original owner of this Corvette saw virtues in the ’63 that perhaps few others saw.
