Are These Spy Shots of the 2022 Corvette Z06?
The amount of camouflage on this prototype leads us to believe Chevy is working on some big changes for the 2022 Corvette Z06.
Our spy photographer recently spotted a heavily camouflaged Corvette prototype undergoing cold-weather testing in Canada. Our source strongly believes this to be the upcoming Corvette Z06. A vehicle Corvette Forum may have already heard in person, but that’s another story. Back to the spy shots.
Apparently, our photographer didn’t have it easy. The conditions were dark and snowy, and security posed a threat at every turn (literally). Given the state of the car, there wasn’t much to see, but we’re still thankful for these photos. Despite Chevy’s best efforts, we can learn a lot from spy photos.
Just about every part of the car that we’d want to see is covered in heavy camouflage. This leads us to believe that the C8 Corvette Z06 will differ significantly from the standard C8 Corvette, both visually and mechanically.
We’ll start from front to back. The nose is heavily obscured, as are the front fenders. We expect a wide-mouth air intake, brake cooling ducts, and wider rubber. Speaking of brakes, even the wheels are covered with solid discs that prevent us from seeing what brake upgrades we can expect for the Z06.
Wider is Better
Of course, those covers also prevent us from seeing the designs for the new wider wheels. The fenders, from what we can tell, appear to be much wider all the way around. The wide rear tires seen in these photos are one thing Chevy couldn’t camouflage. Expect some seriously meaty rubber on the production Z06.
Even the doors are covered. The door design may be different as a result of the wider fenders up front and out back. From one of the photos, it appears that there is a substantial air intake built into the door. It could be feeding something truly ruthless beneath the engine cover.
Interestingly, this prototype appears to be wearing the same rear spoiler seen on the production C8 equipped with the Z51 package. We expect that the production Z06 will wear an even larger spoiler, better suited to the Z06’s wider bodywork.
There really isn’t a lot to see here. However, there is still plenty of information to learn from these snowy shots. We can’t wait to see more.
