New 427/570 V8 improves upon LS7 formula, chooses wet-sump for lower costs. Meanwhile, 2021 Corvette shows off in new trailer.

The Corvette is no stranger to SEMA. America’s sports car always turns up for the biggest aftermarket extravaganza in Las Vegas every November. After all, it’s a popular platform for many in the industry to show off their latest and greatest.

However, the pandemic wrecked any chance of the usual festivities from taking place. Instead, the virtual SEMA360 carries the torch for 2020. That said, nothing will stop the Corvette from turning up. It even brought some friends via the virtual Chevrolet Performance booth, including a new 427 V8 crate engine.

“Chevrolet Performance’s new LS427/570 engine builds on the track-bred performance of the original LS7 engine,” said Chevrolet Peformance associate marketing manager Bill Martens, “and enhances it in two important ways: more power, and easier installation.”

Regarding installation, the LS427/570 V8 uses a wet-sump oil system with an F-body oil pan instead of the LS7’s dry-sump unit. This not only makes dropping the new LS V8 into an older Corvette a breeze, but also means you won’t be spending a whole lot of money to do so.

Another reason to choose the LS427/570 over the LS7? Power. A new, higher-lift camshaft drops an additional 65 horses and 70 lb-ft of torque under the hood over the LS7. Based on the dyno, that means 572.8 thunderhorses delivering a collective 543.8 lb-ft of highway-dominating torque to the rear. Smoke ’em if you got ’em, indeed.

Get It Together with Connect & Cruise

Chevrolet Performance Connect & Cruise

Of course, if you have an older Corvette, and the LS427/570 V8 is your jam, you want the right pieces together to send those ponies to the rear without headaches. Chevrolet Performance’s Connect & Cruise program does just that. Just pick your engine, pick your transmission, and the rest of parts needed to put them together will be handled by Chevy themselves.

2021 Corvette

“When you get into a Corvette, you’re a superhero.” The wise words of Corvette engineering boss Tadge Juechter ring truer than ever before in the C8 Era.

Thus, the 2021 Corvette coupe and convertible tear it up all over Daytona Beach and Daytona International Speedway, plus the Meydan Bridge in Dubai (where the C7-era ZR1 debuted in 2017). It may not be in Vegas, but the Corvette won’t let any pandemic slow its roll anytime soon.
