2020 C8 Corvette Nürburgring Lap Time Revealed!

The mid-engine 2020 C8 Corvette is officially faster than the new 992 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

To commemorate the start of C8 production, Chevrolet released a teaser for a new documentary entitled, Revolution: The Mid-Engine Corvette Development Story. Chevy promises the doc will give us a behind-the-scenes look at the car’s creation, including a look at C8 testing at the legendary Nürburgring.

As most of us know, the ‘Ring’s Nordschleife configuration has become a benchmark of performance for sports cars. Its epic and grueling design tests just about every single type of situation one could imagine in a performance application. If you’re fast at the Nordschliefe, you’re usually fast everywhere. And, as pointed out by Road & Track and Roadshow, Chevy planted a Nürburgring C8 easter egg in the teaser around the 52-second mark.

Can you see it? 07:29.9 scribbled across the tarmac. For those unfamiliar with the ‘Ring, covering the track surface with messages and drawings is a standard affair. This is done across several of the more fan-focused corners along the 12.93-mile race track. Fans of the course love partaking in these shenanigans and the drawings are usually updated on a regular basis.

So there we have it — 07:29.9 — the official C8 Corvette Z51 lap time, confirmed by Chevy. For context among other GM performers, Roadshow reports the C8’s time makes it on par with the Camaro ZL1, but slower than the Camaro ZL1 1LE and C7 Z06. Even better news? The C8 bested the newly released Porsche 911 Carrera S. The $113,300 MSRP Porsche only managed to run a 7:30.41 lap time with additional weight reduction over stock. You can thank Corvette Racing factory wheelman Oliver Gavin for beating the German sports car on its home turf. Is it only half a second faster? Yes. Does that mean it wins? Also yes.
