1988 Corvette Challenge car, driven by Andy Pilgrim is for sale on our sister site RacingJunk.com for $42,500.

We’ve got an interesting one for any Corvette Racing history fans. A private collector has listed a 1988 Corvette Challenge C4 Corvette over on our sister site, RacingJunk.com. Here is a short description.

Own a piece of Corvette history. The 1988 CC #18 car has been in a private C4 collection for many years. Driven successfully by Andy Pilgrim. Bloomington Gold and NCRS candidate. Car is 100% restored and comes with documentation including SCCA professional log book. Car is signed by Andy Pilgrim. Listed in Corvette Challenge Registry.

According to Hagerty, the C4 Corvette was so dominant in 1985-1987 SCCA Showroom Stock GT racing — beating Porsche 29 to 0 — that the SCCA banned Corvettes from competing. Unwilling to give up on the marketing benefits, C4 Corvette chief engineer Dave McLellan reached out to racing school owner John Powel for ideas and Powel cooked up the Corvette Challenge series.

While Corvette Challenge racecars were built in a variety of colors, they each began with the same specs, per ShowYourCorvette.com:

• 245hp Cross-Fire fuel injection engine
• Doug Nash 4+3manual transmission
• Z51 Performance Handling Suspension package
• AC3 6-Way Power Driver Seat
• UU8 Delco-Bose Stereo
• Z6A Side Window
• Side Mirror Defog System
• 24S Blue Tint Glass Removable Roof Panel.

A company called Protofab then added in the racing components, including:

• A full roll cage
• Onboard fire extinguisher system
• Racing seats
• Bilstein shock absorbers
• Special wheels along

The Protofab upgrades cost $15,000 on top of the C4 Corvette’s $33,043 MSRP.

This particular C4 Corvette Challenge car is #18. Andy Pilgrim drove #18 to two wins in 1988 before eventually joining the GM Factory Team where he raced the C5.R and Cadillacs.
