Your Chance to Own a Gorgeous 1961 Corvette Owned by Reggie Jackson!

Baseball superstar Reggie Jackson once owned this well-optioned classic Corvette.

Back in the Corvette’s early days, styling would change almost every single year. It’s fun to allow yourself to get mired in the mud of the various model year changes and choose a favorite. For us, the later C1 Corvettes are among our favorites.

The 1961 Corvette was the first year for the more angular rear end that featured the now-ubiquitous quad taillights. The new design was inspired by the XP-700 show car, designed by Bill Mitchell. It would also foreshadow the look of the upcoming 1963 model.

The car seen here is offered for sale on Bring A Trailer. It’s powered by a 283 cubic inch small block V8 fed by dual four-barrel carburetors, good for an impressive 270 horsepower.

Shifting duties are handled by the optional close-ratio four-speed manual transmission. It’s clear that whoever ordered this Corvette new had high performance in mind.

The interior may be black, but outside, it’s white paint (and white wall tires) as far as the eye can see. There’s also plenty of chrome accents to prevent this monochromatic Corvette from blending in with less-interesting machinery.

One interesting distinction between the 1961 and 1962 Corvettes is related to the side coves. On 1962 Corvettes, there was no chrome trim surrounding them. Here, there’s a clear delineation between the side covers and the rest of the body, despite the fact that they are the same color. It’s an interesting look, and we can’t take our eyes off of this car.

Originally, this Corvette was sold new in California. It remained with its original owner until it was purchased by its second owner, hall-of-fame baseball player Reggie Jackson.

Although this Corvette has been restored, it still maintains its original, numbers-matching drivetrain. C1 Corvettes always demand a premium price, and we don’t expect this exceptionally nice one to go for a bargain price.

We doubt that the celebrity ownership will have much of an impact on the final selling price. However, it’ll be a cool story to tell the guys in the Corvette club.
